What are you drinking?

There are some liquors I still prefer cold.

I love licorice. I still drink Jagermeister on occasion. I still like it cold. Two weekends ago I was stuck on Vodka Martinis, dirty with blue cheese stuffed olives, and I like my vodka and vermouth to be cold.

There are more examples. But hell, I figured while I was telling on myself I'd get those two out of the way as well! LOL

I wish I could enjoy beer. And I do love some heavy stouts and dark porters. But it's somewhat rare for me to relegate my drinking to beer, and it is often food based. If we get a bushel of oysters I'll drink more beer than liquor while we are shucking and eating.

Ha, my old boss always drank vodka martinis with blue cheese stuffed olives. We once had a waitress run so she hand stuffed more olives for him. She got a heck out a tip that night.

I am having a couple beers tonight. Had pizza for dinner and need to be up at 4:30 for a road trip to Wilmington for volleyball. Figured 3-4 beers now and in bed early. With whiskey I might have a problem at 4:30.

You would probably like Absinthe. Plus the ritual is pretty cool.

You would be right.

I keep some on hand.

The bottle on the right is 136 proof and is GENERALLY regarded to be as close to the old stuff as any of the larger distillers has gotten.

The bottle on the left is 80 proof and we keep that around for the beginner or casual curiosity seeker.

I don't have my own dedicated silver absinthe spoon but I don't always do the sugar anyway. I do however enjoy dripping the water in and watching the mostly clear liquid turn milky.

I tread very carefully with that shit. 2 small drinks of that & I was walking into walls.

What I am about to say has no basis in science or medicine (the same could be said of most of the "lore" surrounding absinthe).

I find that when I drink absinthe, I can handle it well, enjoy it thoroughly, and end up with a very unique buzz, if AND ONLY IF it is the only thing I imbibe that night.

I had a beer first and wanna drink liquor afterwards? Don't drink absinthe.
I had wine with supper? Don't drink absinthe.
Had a shot of Knob Creek 30 minutes ago? Don't drink absinthe.
Swallowed some of my Listerine in the morning? Don't drink absinthe.

Absinthe doesn't play well with others. But it is not a fight in your stomach like we are accustomed to when we mix multiple spirits. The fight is in the brain.

Other folk's experience may differ of course. I enjoy absinthe. But only when I can dedicate my drinking time to it exclusively.

Today is my "Saturday". May have absinthe for "lunch". LOL

Some milk that's gone bad before it's out of date. I was eating a piece of my homemade german chocolate cake my daughter made me for my birthday yesterday.
