I bought some .45 range brass; much of the Winchester brass has LP pockets that are very tight and won't allow the primer to fully seat. I cleaned all of the pockets before doing the primers. After 10 cases had this issue I gave up on the Winchester cases. No other head stamp had this problem. Some of the Winchester pockets were tight but let the primer seat properly.

Curious, what brand primers are you using? I use primarily Winchester primers, I have not had the problem you mention, unless you count the times a small primer case found its way into the large primer brass.

Winchester primers. They fit every other head stamp in the group just fine. The problem cases are generally pretty tarnished although some of the other head stamp are also tarnished.

It's weird. I've had loose pockets but never tight.

Are you sure you didnt pick up a box of LRP?

I have issues with some Winchester with crimped primers. They were Winchester Ranger contract overruns. Does Winchester also make Rangers that are crimped?

I have had problems with Winchester 45 Auto brass and WLP. I now groom the pockets of Winchester 45 Auto cases for consistent diameter and depth. I have had no issues with them since I started doing so. I have had the same problems with S&B cases and rarely use them anymore.

Guess this is the answer. Thanks

I've ran across Winchester 38sp brass with tight primer pockets on occasion too. Same with some spp 45acp range brass.
