Changed a battery out in 2016 Passat, every light on the dash came on since I didnt use a "settings keeper"....

Figured out that you have to turn steering wheel 1 turn to left and 1 turn to the right to reset alot... then drive less than a quarter mile for the rest of them to reset.

Good as new now. Changed the air filter and about to change the oil. Advance Auto 25% order online and pick up in store is the way to go

Changed the oil (drank a beer) and oil filter (drank a beer or two) in the Jeep. Then rotated the tires (drank a beer) without air tools I might add. Had to have a beer after that.

Then moved onto the wifes car and did the same. Nice afternoon in the garage listening to tunes and getting stuff done. Tired, dirty and happy.

If you put item(s) in the cart but do not purchase, a day or two later you'll get a reminder and the 25% off promo email,
did not buy online as shipping was $11, the air filters I need are not available in stores.
Update: got similar or better pricing on amazon and I have prime, stocked up on air filters for four cars.

Two oil changes and tire rotations today, replaced front turn signal bulbs.

code is RMN25

just search Advance Auto retailmenot and you can usually find 25%-30%........it doesn't work on premium motor oils anymore though evidently
Thanks...ordered a bunch of air filters and cabin air filters. Pissed me off though that they don't have gift cards available as payment yet...oh well..still saved like $20+ with my $5 speed perks coupon too. Thanks again

Spent the day working on our daily drivers.

Changed the alternator in the 97 Ram truck.

Then it was onto the 2012 Accord. New brake shoes front and back. I bought the shoes for it last July. Next time the stealership shows me brake shoes, I'm walking to my car to see if the wheels are still on it. The shoes I took off were in better shape than what I was shown. Back shoes have never been off.

Back shoes. First time I ever did those. Google is your friend on some of this stuff especially when stuff dont move.

^^^ uh.....you are supposed to rotate those back pistons there chief. That's what the oversize phillips head screw slots are for - they make a tool.

You're about to break that C clamp.

Yeah. I asked my helper to bring me my phone.

The piston rotates clockwise. Had trouble getting fist back one back together. Then I remembered the raised post on the back of the pad. I rotated the piston so a slot was in the 12oclock position and that solved the problem. The other side went a lot smoother.

I'm old school. I drove cars with drums and no power assist. The ac was a 470. Roll all 4 windows down and drive 70 mph. Hell. You could dump an entire set of tools in the engine compartment and 95%of them would fall to the ground cause there was no smog control crap in there.

So shoes, pads. O.K

Being the good son in law that I am....hehe.....I changed the oil, oil filter, air filter, and cabin air filter in my mother in law's Escape. 6 qts of Full Synthetic with a Motorcraft oil filter! Then I went and filled it up full of gas as her gas light was on!

Rotated tires.

Knocked the scale off the caliper brackets and lubed them up, I've learned I should probably do this annually thanks to all the brine they spray here.

Might make 150k on the front pads.

Inspired my helper to check out his own rig.

Painting completed, very happy with it so far! 50/50 grey latex paint/water, wiped off after 1min.

Replaced crankshaft position sensor on my Jeep Grand Cherokee -and that is one job I hope I NEVER have to do again!!! What an impossible location to get to!!!! Tore my arm all to hell trying to reach between housing and firewall. Even with the worthless access ports in the firewall it was still ridiculous! I'm sure they designed it that way so I would just take it to the dealer to fix. I'm way too stubborn for that.

I repaired the weather barrier on the front driver's side door on my 330i yesterday. I wish to say that things weren't without problems, but why me?

I started by removing the interior trim piece and two tabs that allow access to screws. Instead of putting these in the back seat like I normally do, I placed them on the hood of my truck. While looking for a screwdriver, my wife asks if I'm going to pick up the fundraiser bbq plates I purchased. I knew that meant to stop and go pick up the fundraiser bbq plates I purchased. So, I go inside and get my wallet and keys and jump in the truck to fetch the plates.

When I get back, we eat, then back to work. I look at the hood of the truck and something is different. Crap! I don't remember moving those parts of the hood. I asked my wife if she did. Nope. That means I left with them still on there. Luckily, the two tabs were in the road in front of my house, and not smushed. I did, however, have to walk about a quarter mile up the main road before I found the trim piece. It also was undamaged. Whew!

The rest of the repair went well. However, during the oil change, I set the funnel in the filler hole and as soon as I began pouring the oil from one of those 5qt containers, the rush of oil knocked the funnel over and oil ran down the side of the motor. The exhaust side.

Other than that, it went well.

Im in the process of labeling all of the little parts bins I have.
Pics to come.

I put fuel injection on a customers 68 Oldsmobile 98 convertible. Along with new heads and a cam. That 455 is a torque monster now and dam it runs smooth. I think I am going to have to do it to my toy now. Carbs suck that is all.

We were talking to the guys with Edelbrock at the Auto Fair last weekend. They told us that 75% of the questions they got last weekend were about fuel injection. Most along the lines of "Can I put it on and not have to fool with it after that?". The impression they got was apparently there's not anyone younger than 65 who can tune a carb anymore. But FI sure does work well.

.

Lots of cleaning and organizing. I made a lot of progress today

I watched a YouTube video on installing a cabin air filter on my daughter's Nissan. Then I went and installed a new cabin air filter in it...lol

I am 46 and can tune a carb with my eyes closed, but they are tempramental, unreliable and todays fuels with alcohol in them literally eat them from the inside out. Even more so if the car is not driven very often and moisture builds up in the fuel system. Most of my customers that go out and buy classic cars can not even operate a car with one. I just restored a 1968 Camaro Z/28 and the guy made it 4 miles from the shop before flooding it out at a traffic light. He called me and said it was broken down so I headed out there found it had spark so I put it to the floor and cranked it and she fired right up, needless to say he was like how did you get it to run whats wrong with it. Since I had developed a good relationship with him I told him it was a loose connection between the seat and steering wheel. It took him a minute but he figured it out, I then taught him how to operate a car with a carb. Fuel injection is just so much easier and trouble free, there is no reason not to as cheap as it is now.

Not technincally in the garage but washed the pollen off the wife's M3.

Took the wheels off one of my Buells so I can get new tires put on today

Put wheels, with new rubber, back on the 1125R

Sway bar bushings, spark plugs, PCV and passenger side quarter panel on my daughter’s 07 Xterra. Next up is insulating the unfinished walls and garage door but that will be late tonight/early tomorrow because this heat sucks

Replaced the in-tank fuel filter/cutoff in a 1982 IH Cub Cadet 782 Diesel.....

I changed the oil in my Corolla. I had to make a trip to Advance Auto for a new filter wrench. I let a quick-change place change it last time and the oil filter cap (plastic) was so tight that the wrench I had been using for years (also plastic) wouldn't budge it. Which makes no sense, because the cap is sealed with an o-ring, not a gasket, so making it tighter does not make it seal better.

On Tuesday I changed the oil in our Honda CRV. I found out that it is possible to do so without jacking up the car. Possible, but not comfortable.
