Seems a good topic for a radio subforum.

I'm going to finish repairing the Drake PS for the three band Drake UV3 VHF rig.

If this isn't a perfect ham radio day, I don't know what is. Great antenna weather too :)

Worked on drone, talked on 147.505 Simplex in the AM and currently talking to my friend Sergey in DMR TG950600 in Ivanovo Russia. He says it is -33f there, that they are "having traditional Russian fun .. starting car" (he's funny). Not enough snow here to mention. A big pot of vegetable soup is simmering. Roads are wet, but clear. Non-event.

Got the new battery box in (thanks for link Howard) and hooked it up. We are north of snow line and have about 5"

I've got a Drake UV3 (triband UHF FM xcvr) that one of the readout dials had split on. I'd bought a couple spares when it began to split 10 yrs ago, and installed it today. took removing about 10 knobs, 3 switch nuts, the upper lid , removing the front panel electronics from the rest of the chassis then unscrewing 3 stacked boards to get to it (undoing standoffs)

No spare parts when I got thru and it all works....

This thing has the best audio of any 2m rig I've ever owned.

Turned on the Omni and tuned 17M, heard a station from French Guyana sign and gave him a call and got a quick report. Not much other DX other than Namibia on 20M, so went to 40 CW and did some ragchewing in between the RTTY noise.

Made my 1st contact via PSK-31. Have been working on proper set up of computer, software, and radio to make it all work. Then there is the protocol and language to figure out. After looking at many conversations, I took the plunge and had a short QSO with a station in Puerto Rico. Very satisfying.

My low loss pwrgate arrived in the mail today. I now have the shack running on a battery back-up system. Next step, solar panels to charge the batteries.

That is cool! Like most things in ham radio (and life) the amount of reward from success is generally proportional to the effort put forth to achieve the accomplishment. I know there's a lot of fussy details to sort out in anything involving computers, and PSK and the PSK software certainly requires patience and persistence .

I have a friend at work who does a lot of JT9/JTx mode stuff and while it's not my cup of tea, the efficiency of that mode is incredible. There's always something new to try .... Congrats on making it work.

I built my 80M OCF dipole and got it strung up. It is only about 25' and is flat top. I made 3 good contacts today on 20M, including Oregon so the height may be perfect if it also works well as a sort of NVIS for closer folks.

Well I worked SC, Kentucky and Georgia on 80M tonight and a guy in Clayton (only 10 miles away) emailed me and said he heard me loud and clear. So, either my NVIS is working super good or he heard ground wave, I am gonna go with ground wave being that close.

Worked several stations up and down the east coast on 5.346.50 MHz USB at 25 watts...
