What did you do in the reloading room today?

went thru all the brass I picked up at the PSA range yesterday. Picked out the .300 BLKs, the .45s, the .38s and anything else that looked odd in the sea of 9mm .380 (grrrr) .40s and realized I have a Crap Ton of 9mm makarov brass. Time to get one of those Combloc Maks I guess :D

Ran 250 rnds of 77SMK 556 with new brass thru my 650. It is so nice to take out the sizing die and just go like stink loading new brass.

When it was still cold the other week, my 650 start running slow like molasses in winter slow. I thought it might be the cold. I cleaned off all the cam surfaces and relubed with white Triflow grease and now it runs slick as snot.

Primed and loaded another 100 rounds of 45. I used RMR 230 gr. (there version of TMJ rn) I decided to weigh some of the bullets. They varied in weight from 229.2 to 230.8 I was some what surprised at this. I was wondering if anyone else uses these. I have used Hornady 230gr in the past and have weighed these and very seldom do I find one that is off. It does not matter to me much since I just use them to shoot at paper, but I do try to load for accuracy.
RMR has 2 different plated 230gn bullets. One is their "Hardcore Match" which is thick plated, and the other is their regular plated 230gn RN. I've shot a lot of both, the hardcore match is accurate, but has a short ogive that must be seated short (typically 1.200" for my guns). The regular 230 RN is almost identical to the Xtreme bullet, and I generally seat those to 1.245" and they feed more reliably in some of my guns.

The hardcore match can be seated longer and feeds very reliably in my S&W 1911. I can seat them as long as I want for my S&W 625 and is VERY accurate in that gun.

Thanks for the info. Off the top of my head I do not remember for sure but I think ogive was 1.201 or 2. I will check tomorrow when I go back out to load shed.

Some what screwed up today. Decided after I loaded some 9mm I was going to load some for my .308. Bought some Hornady 30 cal .308 150gr Interlock sp early last year and never did anything with them. So I decided to do five loads with IMR 4895 and five with IMR 4064. Put the powder in and and went to seat the bullets.

Well duhhhhh !!! I never figured out how far to seat the bullets. So I pressed them in slightly and left them sitting. Will bring rifle out to load shed in the morning and gauge bullet depth. Yup I was getting tired, time to quit for day.

Scotch time!!!

My luck is not as good as yours. If that had happened to me, the seating depth would have been too deep, but close enough for me to load a hundred before I caught the problem. So then I would get to have a bullet pulling party. I would console myself with the knowledge that at least the case necks were now truly round, even if the neck tension was diminished somewhat in the next seating.

Honestly, I don't know if I would even consider catching the problem in 5 rounds as a mistake. Perhaps you are being too hard on yourself, or maybe you were just looking for a reason to keep the scotch bottle company. Not that there is anything wrong with that either way!

Opened my night with two of these in a row.

Once that was out of the way, churned out some brass and a batch of loads for a ladder test.

I worked up some test loads of 44mag, using the Zero 240 JSP bullets I just received, using Ramshot Enforcer powder. I hope to get to the range to test them this weekend.

Last night I hand sorted .380 from 9mm and 9mak. Jeez dude. I gotta get those Dillon sorter trays with the .380 tray, because I'm not doing that again. Even with 13-year old help, it sucked. Royally.

Deprimed them all and got them ready for the tumbler. Amazingly enough, 9mm brass is one thing that I don't have a huge supply of. I got more .38SPL than I can use in one lifetime and .233/.556 is nearly there. Guess it's a good thing that 9mm is like sand at the beach at most ranges....I guess I will still keep scooping them up into my range bag.

The sorting trays help, and I use mine all the time, but I also go through an extra step that helps me weed out the internally stepped cases, 9mak, and NATO headstamps.

OK, I can quit now. Learned something new that will actually benefit me for the day. Stick a fork in me, I am done.

I will shoot .380, but I won't load it. I would rather leave it on the range to create issues for others than have it in my fired case bins. Maybe I can change that now.

So I guess I have outed myself. Yes, for those of you who hate .380s as much as I do, "I am THAT guy".

Pro Tip of the Year.
I'm never paying my kids again to sort brass.

Made it out to the load shed and seated the above bullets correctly. Also worked on some loads using RMR 175gr BTHP IMR 4895 . Just have to find a new place to shoot distance. Can no longer shoot where I use to. Farmer sold his land.

Are these things even going to punch a hole in paper or knock steel down? ItS like watching a C17 take off
40 minor is like legalized cheating. Stupid soft and flat

I was starting to get a big mess up in my gun room/reloading room. I cleaned up my ammo shelf a good bit. Close side is factory ammo. On rearward is some powder and various projectiles.

While I was up there I used a couple of tackle box organizers to clean up some spare parts. One is for silencer stuff. The other is for extra picatinny rail sections. I almost have my bench top open again!

Loaded up 80 rounds of 6.5 Creed with the last of the 140 Berger Elite's. I'm getting tired of always searching for them...out-of-of stock, backorderable, not available...blah, blah, blah. Switching to 142 Sierra HPBT's. I just ordered 500 of them for roughly 2/3 the price of Berger's. And the BC is almost identical.

That's just waaay too organized. We may need to do an intervention

Got bored today and decided to go against convention (like I needed a reason). Started neck turning a lot of 100 pieces of once fired brass, going from 0.015 to 0.014 neck thickness. So much for the Lapua not benefiting neck turning.

What turner do you have, and do you like it?

I use the 21st Century and love it. Easy to set up and use, but best of all very consistent when taking measurements at 60 degree intervals around the neck (<0.0005 variation). Expensive, but only marginally more than a complete set up (with expander die) from Sinclair or K&M and with the base, I drive it with my drill.

Dangit. I walked right into that one. Yet another shiny reloading gadget I never knew I needed. And their website is FULL OF THEM!!!

Oh yes it is, and some pretty neat stuff too. The neck turner got me first with its floating lathe head to improve concentricity (darn I hate marketing people that go there - they own me!), then the hand primer that allows for dialing primer depth in 0.0005 increments with its detent ball indicator.

Sorry to do it to you, but misery loves company, and it helps out the wife if you can point to the “evil influence” that led you astray.
