Hi all.

Recently purchased this 8mm and a Brazilian 30-06 Mauser. It is marked German 33-40 Mauser. I assume those to be import marks, but I really don't know. I don't see any other markings other than some random numbers stamped here and there on the barrel. Obviously not an original stock. :D

I assumed it to be the German G33/40, but there are differences from the ones I see online so I don't know if it is or not.

The barrel has a couple of step downs to smaller diameter instead of a smooth transition all the way down.

If you need to see specific pics of a certain area, let me know. I did try to take the stock off, but the big screw in the trigger area would not budge.

Thanks for any insight into this rifle and an approximate value.

From what I can see, it looks like a German 8mm Mountain Carbine. At least it looks like it started as one and then someone sporterized it. Just a guess, but it's a shame that so many rifles were repurposed that way. Maybe someone else here has a better perspective!

Possible GI bring back are at least pre68 import before importer marks were mandatory. Receiver looks sanitized ie manufacture removed. Look under the rear sight and bottom of barrel for additional proofs.

Thanks CD. I was wondering where the original manufacture marks were. I'll see if I can find some additional markings.

Where does it say it's a G33-40? I believe they were marked on the left side of the receiver above the woodline. Original G33-40's were lightened carbines; the receiver had some metal milled out in non-structural areas underneath the wood, and the bolt knob was hollowed out on the underside. Original actions used to be highly prized for making lightweight sporters, and as mentioned above, most have probably been sporterized in one form or another. Would like to see the underside of the bolt and the receiver if you get it out of the wood.
