I didn't know if this should go here or in the NFA forum, but I'm interested to hear comments from those who wouldn't normally go in the NFA forum, so....

Here is a link to the Maxim 9, an integrally suppressed 9mm pistol:

https://silencerco.com/maxim/

I watched a video of it taken at SHOT. Interesting concept, though it definitely is a beefy piece. If the Hearing Protection Act passes, I can see them being backlogged for a while on this pistol, but it is still an expensive piece at $1500. I wonder if you will have any LE agencies look seriously at it as a duty weapon?

Anywho, I think it is something to watch, but I'm not sure how many people will pony up for it. Thoughts?

Wow that's changed since I first saw it. I thought it was based on an M&P for some reason. It looks like a Walther now.

Personally, it's a neat concept but you can buy a lot of pistols and suppressor combos for $1500. This has an advantage in size but i don't know how much that really matters. I don't care if my ccw is loud. Maybe as an HD gun that's easier to balance than a regular gun with regular suppressor? I'm not sure. It will be interesting to see what maintenance, lifetime, etc are like too. Can you remove/replace baffles or something to increase lifespan, cleaning, etc?

As for law enforcement, I don't see this ever being a duty weapon. Like a ccw, if a duty weapon has to be brought into play, how loud it is shouldn't be a real issue. Maybe something for the tactical guys but I don't think we'll see it in the holster of regular duty cops.

I think it is pretty sweet, but still really bulky. It does seem like a better option than trying to walk around with a holstered traditionally suppressed pistol though. I'd like to shoot one to try it out. Doubt I'm a buyer though.

With all the work/time/cost involved with getting a silencer I would prefer it's detached from the pistol so I can move it around. For me as a civilian with all of the restrictions it's just not worth it for a single purpose setup, especially since the host pistol is an unknown in terms of quality/reliability.

They did say in the video that it used to be based on the M&P. Now it is Glock magazine compatible but you know they didn't design it from the ground up. They started with some existing design.

Since I have other pistol suppressors and am debating some integrals....this would a GO for me.

New Host Glock 19: $550
Threaded barrel: $150
9MM Suppressor: $600 (They can be more or less...I'm going average)
Total: $1300

Tax Stamp: $200

Pretty comparable in price, for sure

To add to your numbers, it comes already cut for an RMR, which will save you a bit, too, compared to a stock Glock 19.

I can see the utility of the gun as a dedicated suppressed gun if one is already planning on having a suppressor host with a dedicated suppressor. I can see keeping this with me at the shop or on the nightstand at the house.

If the HPA passes, it would make this look a lot more attractive, too. Not only would it save $200, but it would make it much easier to sell the gun if you decided to not keep it. As it is with current rules, you'd be married to it unless you wanted to take a bath on resale.

It would have been neat to try this and the Hudson H9 at SHOT range day.

Well...it looks cool!

Both it and the Hudson H9 look like a pistol from a video game, but I can't think of which one. In all seriousness, as the gaming generation comes of age, gets jobs, and has disposable income, I can see a market for firearms that remind them of their favorite game guns. I was looking at the Magnum pistol from the HALO series recently when playing with my kids and wondering how easy it would be to make a real version of it - in a real caliber, of course.
