Now that winter is over and hurricane season isn't here yet I figure around now is when pricing on this stuff will be at its lowest but its still pretty dang expensive.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00S1P5ULK/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_1?smid=A3CB4EAT087P5&psc=1

Any cheaper solutions than this? Looking for something reliable that won't leak. I've seen storage bags that fill and sit in a bathtub but all of them have reviews of them leaking so to me they arent reliable. Would also prefer portable so I can lift it if I need to bring some to my parents, etc.

We bought 10 of these and have them in a dark closet. Rotate the water every 6-9 months or so:

And we also use the "Water Bob" you mentioned and have one for each bathtub:

The water bob worked just fine when I tried it a while back. No leaks, easy to fill and pumped like it should. The only pain in the ass was when it came time to empty it. Just make sure you can access your tub drain easily as the water bob covered one of the drains in our tub due to its odd placement and it was tough trying to hold up that side of the water bob, off of the drain, when it was full.

but not portable, cant see me getting this into the bed of my truck, lol, but I guess I could transfer to the smaller jugs if needed.
yeah I use a camelbak for portable if I am bugging out :D

Seriously I see alot of people using 55 gal drums but at 8lb per gallon, that's ALOT of weight. The smaller lighter 35lb drums are common in the soda industry......I think mine came filled with a Sprite type cola.
280lbs is hella easier to move around than 440lbs. With a set of decent handtrucks and a ramp made from 2x6s you can roll 280lbs right up into the truck. I wouldn't try that with full 55 gallon size.

thanks, I'll check it out. Price per gallon stored definitely going down but I still think its pricey for plastic.

I also found this.

but sounds like it can have leaking problems.

I'm kind of pissed at water bob, last year when the hurricane threatened they jacked their amazon prices way above $100. All the 1 star reviews appear to have been removed but I remember...... and am holding a grudge, lol

I focus more on filtration than storage. But I also have a spring fed creek that borders my property.

I do have a 275 gallon tote outdoors that I can fill ahead of a storm or plumb to the downspout to fill off the roof.

I'd filter that water too....

I've got some life straws if stored water runs out but no real source other than rain barrels used for watering the garden

I have the biggest filter container that Berkey makes. And it’s still portable

quote: "Looking for something reliable that won't leak."
rinsed out 2 liter drink bottles. we have used them for years.
have over 80 under the house. they are TOUGH.
they are FREE. they are Easy to Carry.
try some. if you don't like them,
it didn't cost anything but time.

I started out using 2 L soda bottles but switched to "Simply Orange" juice containers. They are square and stack nicely. I put about two drops of chlorine in each when I fill them from my well. They are heavy duty and I can keep a couple in the back of my vehicle - just in case.

This^ - get a 275 gal tote for your parents and one for you too.
I fill/change out the water every 6 months or so, keep it chlorinated and boil it before using. I don't collect rainwater though.
If you can, get one with a cap for the bottom spout and put a hose bib in the cap.
*eta, after boiling we store the clean water in empty plastic bourbon bottles I saved for that reason.

Empty wine/booze bottles. You know they are portable cause you brought them home. Leave a little in the bottom to keep the water fresh. Good for years of storage.

I've always promoted the free bottles you already have, as mentioned. But, the Dollar Tree also has pre-filled gallon water containers for a buck a piece. Buy them by the case and stack. ;)
