Went to my sisters and forgot the line I bought on the dining room table. They had a spool of 8lb test Spiderwire someone left so I put some on. I think my favorite just changed. It's wicked awesome!

What do you use?

Spiderwire® Stealth® Braid Fishing Line is coated with a Fluoropolymer that makes it glide through guides with ease for quiet and fast casting. Spiderwire Stealth Braid Fishing Line is ultra-thin with a tight-weave construction, and is made up of 100% Dyneema® PE microfibers. Made in USA.

Lately, Kastking Extremus braid and tie on a flourocarbon leader. I got hooked on braid's castability and feel a couple decades ago. Kastking seems quality, price is good.

12-15 lb braid, with ~8 lb floro leader. Choose your brand of choice, they all work well enough for me. The braid really does increase how far you can cast, and reduces wind knots. Get your rig caught on something where it won't break free and the leader will break before your main line, so it's easy to tie on another leader and keep going.

I use the SpiderWire braid myself. Works great around oyster beds too!!

Powerpro super slick8 V2 (not the generic powerpro) 10-60lb for most of my inshore/saltwater rods and Suffix braid 8-10lb for the lighter panfish/freshwater. 10-30lb seaguar fluro leaders for most. Spiderwire always seems too stiff for me and will windknot. I shop the sales and stockup for the next rod. Can't have just one.

Some people Downeast love Fins but I find that after a season it really puffs up and goes to crap. Their wind tamer line is a bit better but I'll stick to power pro V2 and Suffix.

I will say, do not buy Power Pro off of Amazon. A couple years back someone made some chinese copies that were pure and utter crap but looked just like the real stuff. I didn't listen and got a hold of one spool that turned into tissue paper after a few trips. I'm not saying all of it is crap on Amazon, but I couldn't tell.

Yea and I agree with Red above about the knots in spiderwire. I had forgot all about that.

Momoi diamond braid in my experience is worth the little extra cost over the competition. We only use 80# and larger I don’t know much about the lighter braid for inshore stuff.

image.jpgThose 3000 yard spools will run you $250ish but like I said we think it’s worth it or we wouldn’t buy it in bulk like that.

Spiderwire runs smooth, especially while new and the coating isn't worn off, but it won't hold a knot worth a dang. Make your knots accordingly!

I've used what's called the "improved clinch knot" these days, ever since I was little. Dad and I saw it in an article one day and tried it...never looked back.

That knot just didn't slip loose.

I'd say it's been going on 50 years now that I've been using it.

Trout Magnet 4 lb and 2 lb copolymer line on light and ultralight spinning setups, 5X or 6X tippets (not picky on brands) on fly.

No leaders. I throw small spoons and tiny jigs on spinning setups.

I have used the improved clinch all my life and will continue to do so on monofilament. The problem with this knot on braid is that the braid is so slick that it keeps tightening on itself until it actually cuts in two. I got into chasing flathead catfish several years ago and seen this knot fail multiple times with braid. It would leave a little curly pigtail at the break. That was when we switched to the Palomar for braid and I have not seen a knot failure since.

I’ve used power pro braid for years. I bought some spider wire to put on a couple new reels I’ve had for awhile and I’m about to put in service. Never used a flouro leader though. Always been in my mind that it could be a fail Point. I tie straight braid to lure and don’t have an issue catching fish at all

Cool knot. I had to look it up. Thanks!

Spiderwire with a fluorocarbon leader for me. Usually use a palomar knot to tie on. When I fly fish I use the improved clinch, I find it harder to double the line on those little hooks eyes.

I’ve used regular power pro braid for the last couple years. Tried some kast king braid and was happy with it but that rod was stolen after just three trips so no long term experience. I use flouro leader at the coast, whatever kind is on sale when I need some. For the local lakes I usually buy the cheapest spinning combo I can find that is prespooled with mono and use it until something breaks.

I tie a version of the Turle knot that I cannot find an example of. But it has to be the easiest knot to tie for fly fishing. I use it on the main fly and have found a way to adapt it to attaching a dropper as well.

And what knot are you guys using to build the leader of braid? I use a triple surgeons when I build my fly fishing leaders.

I used the improved clinch. Never heard of using the palomar knot as only the spool was there. Caught quite a few fish that week, no failures.

Been using that knot for 40 years on hooks/swivels.

I use tippet rings because I am a cheap ass and want to save my leaders for as long as possible, and it allows me to just tie on with an improved clinch. For spinning gear when I go from braid to leader I tie this.75181954-ADD6-48A8-9804-97222DE52D13.jpeg
The FG Knot works better it’s just a pain to tie and I haven’t done it enough not to need a tutorial.

I use the Alberto for braid to flouro/mono, because I tried it first.

I use the palomar when tying braid direct to tackle, 20 years ago one of the big braids had it on their packaging as the knot for braid, it was easy, and it has held to many busy days of large fish since, no reason to change. Improved clinch usually for flouro/mono.

I prefer the Alberto over the double uni for a braid to flouro leader knot. It seems to be a bit slimmer and slide through the rod eyes better.

Palomar is by far the best all around knot. For my 10&12/0 circle hooks for big blues, I always snell the hooks. Direct line to line, I prefer a uniknot. As far as line goes, I run power pro braid on all of my bigger catfish rods, as well my inshore spinning rods. For trout and pan fish I actually prefer 4# trilene xl smooth casting. Never had any luck with the super light (and thin) braids for slinging light weight rooster tails and beetle spins.
