I have been buying myself a bunch of christmas presents....

What is the magic number of purchases (number and time frame?) that gets you on a "list".

I'm assuming transfers (4473) are what they count.

Thanks!

There are FFLs on here that will know more, but Im pretty sure two handguns within five days gets a report sent.
Dont think there is a rifle requirement that triggers a report...

  1. The Gun Control Act (GCA) of 1968 requires federal firearms licensees (FFLs) to report multiple sales or other dispositions of handguns to the same purchaser.
  2. The sale or disposition of two or more handguns must be reported if they occur at the same time, or within five consecutive business days of each other.
  3. ATF views the recovery of one or more firearms used in crimes that were part of a multiple purchase as an indicator of firearms trafficking.

Thanks Draco!

These have to be from the same FFL as well right?

Same "multiple sales" report applies to lower receivers, as they "could" be built as pistols.

Obviously, the same FFL will know outright, but I don't think it's limited to the same FFL. But really, is a second FFL gonna know unless you tell them?
Again, there are some FFLs on here that will for sure know way more than me.

I wonder how often people buy multiple handguns and sell them off eventually. I imagine the ATF is after the big dogs intentionally providing lots of handguns to gangs rather than Joe Schmoe that got a good deal on two handguns and sold them down the line in a legal fashion.

I don't share your optimism. IMO, the ATF has more to gain via easy wins auditing FFLs than they do chasing hard "maybe victories" on the streets. To add, if street violence went away, they'd be out of a job. Overly cynical? Maybe, but after watching them literally seed violence via Fast and Furious, I wouldn't put anything past them.

Fear makes the budget grow.

we all would probably be surprise how many ATF agents are on hand at every gun show. and they all don't look like what you'd think

The magic number is... 1-800-ATF-LIST.

I'm pretty sure that the magic number is one.

Despite the law forbidding the FBI from retaining personally identifiable information from the BGC and retaining the same information for no more than six months, I seem to recall that a report from an IG audit determined that the information is never deleted or destroyed. Any information that the FBI has is undoubtedly shared with other agencies.
