This is not the first time I've seen this, but I don't know what I'm looking at.

My daughter recently bought a house. The previous owner was an older gentleman. I'm not sure of his age, but I think he may have been slipping a bit, mentally. I say that because all of the light switch covers are labeled and we peeled a sticker off the door that was a reminder to take a charged cell phone when leaving. But, I digress.

Why is this here?

Way back when, one would put a wrapped brick in the toilet tank to reduce the amount of water per flush. No clue why it would be on the floor.

Some use them to lay on food in a pan to get it crispy. I’ve done chicken like that. But idk why it’s on the floor.

Obviously, to distract from that wallpaper.

To keep the radiation contained. That's a souvenir from when he worked at a nuclear plant. He used to use it as a nightlight.

You may have discovered one of only sources of unobtainium.

Door stop. The wrapping is so it doesn't scratch stuff up.

My grandmother would crochet sleeves for bricks that she used as doorstops.
This. Also were used to put under the head of the bead to elevate the head a little. The foil was just to dress up the brick a little.

Ever watched your grandma iron clothes or bake a chicken?
