what makes some mags not lock the bolt open?

I've got a few PSA marked aluminum mags, all from the same lot as well as some D&H. Some lock the bolt fine, some will not. The rifle always locks with the 10 PMAGS I use with it.

What's usually the culprit here? Follower? Spring? substandard bolt catch? moon phase?

Follower if diffrent color.

If all followers are the same its the notching of the mag catch hole in the magazine

Weak ammo will do it.
Not keeping the rifle tucked into your shoulder will do it.
Follower, mag spring, Bolt hold open bent or cracked (happens with PCC.)

probably not these as some of them won't lock it open when you cycle it by hand.

The followers all look to be the same. I'll take a closer look at the mag bodies and see if I can find any measurable differences.

The plastic follower ledge sometimes wears down. Its the flat part that pushes up.
Also, mag springs in backward/upside down!
Forgot about that one.
