What Qassim Soleimani's killing means

I was accused of looking like a Persian more than once back in 1979 after they kicked the Shah out and held all those hostages.
I remember one time somebody yelled some bad words at me and accused me of being arabic as I was walking down the street.
That's when I learned that yelling back that i'm from a Mexican family isn't necessarily helpful...

Yeah, I know a guy whose parents are from India. He's an ER doc at Wake Med. Someone said something to him about being a terrorist, he said "I'm a 7/11 guy, not a 9/11 guy...."

You know, come to think of it, I've heard @fieldgrade speak in what sounded like a foreign language before. But I don't think it was Arabic or Persian, more like Gaelic.

Breaking:

At least 56 Iranians were crushed to death Tuesday in a stampede that erupted during the funeral for Qassem Soleimani, the general killed last week in a U.S. airstrike, the country’s state media is reporting.

The gory episode in Soleimani's hometown of Kerman, which also reportedly left more than 200 injured, came as the U.S. Maritime Administration is warning ships across the Middle East to be on alert for possible retaliatory attacks from Iran.

“Unfortunately as a result of the stampede, some of our compatriots have been injured and some have been killed during the funeral processions," Pirhossein Koulivand, the head of Iran’s emergency medical services, told state media.

The best part is, they picture is real. It's the cover pic for Aljazeera's coverage of the funeral.

Democrats and Hollywood are the only group upset about it and the Ayatollah.

I have a friend from nursing school, she is first generation American, her parents moved here from Iran. She was beautiful, but that's beside the point. She would often describe herself as Persian, most people don't know that Persia and Iran are one of the same.

Our Oral Surgeon assistant, also Persian, came here as a child legally, got her BS and MS.
She says she could never do that back home.

And that Persians are not Arabs.

My school ID definitely does not look western European, even though I am (Frog, actually).
So after 79’s Iranian hostage episode I might have gotten a little more attention than I wanted back then. And not the good kind.

Yes. How to piss of Iranians/Persians: Tell them they are Arab. Same with Afghani's and Paki's.

I wrapped a checked towel around my head one Halloween at a party, and voila’! my costume was complete.

You mean Paki's and Indians. What an easy way to start a nuclear war, talk about people hating each other.

No, Paki's and Afghani's. Indians are ethnically removed from Arabian, and definitely "look" different. Paki's, almost, but genetically they are more like Iranians/Persians and Afghani's.

But yeah, the Paki/Indian relationship is, ahhh, strained. Pakistan used to be a very pro-Western, thriving economy and progressive nation. Until radical Islam got a hold of it.

Going for looks, yes, my bad I had a brain fart

The first year of my MS at Clemson (around 86-87), I shared a tiny, tiny office (still not sure how they got three desks in there) with a Pakistani and an Indian. That had tense moments.

Soleimani responsible for 56 deaths after his death! Too bad it wasn’t more that were stampeded.

That is perfect... I'll have to use that the next time it happens to me! And to be clear, I never resent the suspicion, it is completely understandable. I just appreciate having humorous ways to talk through the situation.

My buddy Sanjay, he is about as laid-back, kind of got that southern surfer dude attitude LOL. If you talk to him for 30 seconds you would say brother, I don't know where the hell you're from.

Yes, most don't know that if you go far enough back in time, Persians were not Muslim. That happened after the Arabs invaded and took them through the subjugate/convert/expel/kill process for infidels. Many Persians ended up in India, some having to flee again when Pakistan got islamified and partitioned from India.

Islam never quits assimilating on its own.

Yeah, sometimes I tell folks my mom is a Yankee, but my dad's a southerner... From waaaay down south... And my grandad helped kick out the Brits :).

But I sadly did not get any cool dude genes.

So at that point, our military in the ME are targets. Without the aid of Iraqi military, troops in Iraq could just get picked off here and there - no place off base would be safe (even the bases wouldn't be safe - can incoming missles can be fended off with 100% certainty?). If China were in Canada, initially with Canada's approval, and Canada subsequently told them to leave, and Chicoms refused, would we blame Canadians for engaging in guerrilla tactics against the occupying Chicoms? Would we blame Americans who went over the border to help Canada?

Having our military in countries where we aren't wanted just leaves us sitting ducks - for justifiable attacks by patriotic Iraqis, their Iranian allies, or for a Mossad false flag (because Israel would love for us to go to war with Iran - which of course is why American neocons have had Iran on the short list for decades).

There is no winning for America here. Bring our troops home, and defend our own borders.
And as predicted, here we go. Missiles have been fired at two US airbases in Iraq.

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/missile-strike-reportedly-carried-out-against-us-base-iraq

As long as we leave troops there, we can easily get sucked into a full scale war - with a country that does not push an ideology that sends terrorists into the West and that has no capability of attacking America. Yet Iran has been on the neocon hit list for decades. And depending on Trump's response, the neocons and Israel may get their wish.

In America, so many people are living paycheck to paycheck ($1,000 emergency would push many Americans into debt - https://www.cnbc.com/2019/01/23/most-americans-dont-have-the-savings-to-cover-a-1000-emergency.html), yet we spend TRILLIONS in the Middle East, and now we may engage in a new war that could have us there for decades longer, and could easily cost Trump his re-election bid.

But war is exciting, so I expect there will be plenty of chest thumping. Way to go America. On the verge of controlling SCOTUS (as well as federal appellate court) picks for the next 4 years, we may fumble that away to continue to wage endless war in the Middle East. SMH.

Pulling out will only embolden them at this point. They've been trained for 30 years that the US won't really fight. I seriously doubt simply pulling out now will make anything any better.

Pull out, sure, no point in us being there if they don't want us (Iraq specifically) but make sure they understand that you don't hit us without getting hit back much harder in response. That's something the Air Force is pretty good at.
