A fellow employee where I work approached me about buying a Colt pistol that he has for sell, since I already have this model i wasn't interested .
Few minutes later he come back by and tells me him and another guy , we'll call him Johnny, are working a deal for the pistol.
Here's the problem Johnny is a felon.
Last year Johnny was arrested for felon in possession of a firearm given probation and allowed to keep his job.
It was in the local paper so I know for a fact Johnny's a felon it's not just a wild guess.
What do I do if anything?

He wants to buy it from you, but then plans on selling it to a felon? Just making sure I have the basics before I vote or comment further.

Does the fellow employee know about "Johnny"?
If not, let him know.
Other than that just walk away.

I vote for mind your own business walk away forget you know anything. Getting into the middle of coworkers business can lead to trouble down the road. If you tell the seller about Johnny’s past you run the risk of pissing Johnny off to the point you might catch some retribution down the road. If Johnny has already had trouble with the law, what’s to say he wouldn’t be willing to have more trouble with the law by paying you back for some perceived slight.

Has Johnny paid society back for his felony? If he's done his time then I have a hard time saying he shouldn't have his rights restored.
That said, if the law says he needs a PPP/CHL to buy a pistol, then he should meet the terms of the law lest be again become a felon.
I'd say you don't need to tell the seller about Johnny's past, you could just tell him about the need to see a PPP/CHL to remain free of trouble in the eyes of the law.

Can previous knowledge of this sale bite you in the butt if'n this goes bad?

You've been in the middle of it!

Tell the seller he needs to be sure and see a ccp/pp. Just a suggestion without revealing anything about the buyer. After that they are on their own.

@S4f

Add this to the poll and you'll get an overwhelming answer to your question...

Oh, BTW, it's "sale" ;)
that he has for sell

Tell the seller then walk away from it.
Then you are in the clear if something goes sideways.

DinduNuffinJohnny should be your new name.

If I am reading the OP correctly “Johnny” was a felon prior to last year’s charge “felon in possession of a firearm” so he’s not even trying to toe the line and keep out of trouble which ain’t a good. “Johnny” obviously ain’t no collector so what does he want it for which ain’t a good sign. My first thought is mind your own business unless the seller is a good friend and if so just remind him of the NC Pistol Purchase Permit/CHP requirement to buy a handgun ... after that steer clear.

Maybe Johnny is buying it to shoot up the workplace? What was his felony charge for that made him a felon in possession?

if says nothing, how is he not in the clear?
This is my opinion, which is what OP was asking for, our opinion. If he wanted legal advice he would have asked an attorney.

Buyer is a felon
You know he is a felon
Seller tells you he is going to sell his handgun to someone that you know is a felon
You don't tell seller that you know buyer is a felon and you do know he is about to sell a handgun to that felon
How can you be in the clear if you don't inform seller, who confided in you, that he is about to commit a crime? Think about it.

This is not an Obama "If you know something say something" deal, you can help two people (buyer & seller) stay out of some real trouble by telling the seller what you know.
If he decides to sell to him anyway, then your conscience is clear.
That's all I have to say about that.

There's another option here... if you buy it then it keeps it out of Johnny's felonious fingers.
Sounds like you need to do your part here...J/K.

All kidding aside, I'd just remind the seller who is doing the sale about the requirements for a sale before he sets what he wants to sell sail.

Pretty much sums it up for me. I always tell people when it comes to firearms, either keep it legal or keep me out of a convo.

Tell seller. The person the felon might use gun against might be someone you like.

Since it sounds like your friend has probably never sold a handgun before, tell him there are rules in NC about selling handguns and penalties for not following them, and if he needs any assistance with those rules, you are well versed and can help him. Never even mention the buyer.

Where is @Is this leagal? He needs to weigh in.
Ask and you shall receive. Lol. So, years ago when I used to walk among what is described as the "law abiding citizen" or "citizen" of these united States of America. I purchased my first handgun at 21... legally with a ppp issued by my local Sheriffs dept. I decided later that it was next to impossible to hit anything at any distance with a snub nose .38. So I traded it for a bow, but upon that deal, I made my friend obtain a ppp, bring it to me and I documented the serial number for the firearm on the ppp. I still have it to this day, for safe keeping. That is what the Sheriff told me to do, so that's what I did. All that being said, if your friend wants to remain "law abiding" I'd suggest he do the same. I hate the gun laws with a bloody passion...but it is the "law", or is it? I've been looking long and hard for relief from my disability to "lawfully carry", and keep firearms. Upon reading N.C. gun laws, federal gun laws, court rulings, and the whole spaghetti bowl of a mess we know today...as the "gun laws". It has become even more apparent to me that...the Second Amendment is so much more simpler. Shall not be infringed. It's pretty cut and dry. Why do We as a society have to make things so complex? The Brady Handgun Prevention Act, which is precisely what the N.C. , and most other States gun laws are modeled after, has done been ruled in a SCOTUS as unconstitutional. Look up Printz v/s US. An Arizona Sheriff by the name Richard Mack, and one other challenged it and won. The handgun permitting scheme was put into place by some of your favorite criminals, Chuck Schumer, and Bill Clinton. Yet, the Supreme Court said since the provisions of Brady were already established it'd be up to the States respectively to keep it in place...Most did.
I have questions though...why isn't the said buyer in prison? What kind of person is he? How long has been out? Is he still on parole? Is the gun in question stolen? All valid questions, and I'll say this much too. The OP has done incriminated himself in a online forum that is frequented by LEO. My suggestion would be as others had stated. Inform your friend, the seller, of what is about to transpire. Which I'd likely suspect he's already aware of it, and if he is...well, that's his business. It can't stand the fear porn that I've read so far in this thread. We incarcerate people on "what ifs"? Why is it, that when someone else commits a crime, the blame gets laid at our i.e the citizens feet?

The handgun permitting scheme was put into place by some of your favorite criminals, Chuck Schumer, and Bill Clinton.
Pistol permits go back way further than these clowns...... they're Jim Crow laws that were made to keep minorities from owning guns.
