What's the cost of this job? - Do I go through with it?

I live up in Elkin and can help if you need it. Im with the group, I don't think the calipers need replacing. But sticking new rotors and pads on is easy peasy. Hardest part is jacking up the truck. You really need to be able to lay eyes on it to diagnose it tho.

I have a side gig working on cars around Raleigh. I charge intial $60 for front pads, $10 more if rotors need to be done. If all for need to be done, call it $100 even + parts.

Brake fluid absorbs water.

Parts the dealer pay from the OEM are much more than at quailty parts place like NAPA or Oreliy's. Dealers just up charge..ALOT.

All of this can be easily fixed by coating the rotors and pads with some aviation grade grease.

Just kidding, don't do that. PLEASE don't do that.

Sounds like you are in good hands with the offers from folks here. Stay away from the place you got that ridiculous quote from.

Just replaced both front and rear rotors, front and rear pads, as well as bleeding the fluid on a friend's '11 F150 4wd Lariat for $395 (incl tax). This is using Advance Auto/CARQUEST's "platinum" level parts. Do it yourself or take one up on their offer to help out, you'll save a TON of money.

I'm still debating whether to do this or sell my truck. I won't be needing a vehicle for a while; OTOH, not sure if I want to make payments on one when I get back.

Keep it, the price of pick up trucks (new and used) are ridiculous.

So how much are you going to ask for a truck that needs 1700.00 worth of work?
Chances are I would factor like $700 for parts and time, judging from the responses here.

I'd have to KBB the value. I'm not certain what it would go for. There are a couple other small issues. Other than needing an alignment, nothing mechanical.

If you are in the charlotte area I'd be happy to assist you fixing the brakes. Can't quite possibly be no where near the price you were quoted. Sounds like wherever you took it can't correctly diagnose the problem, so they want to replace damn near the whole system. Pm if I can help......bring beer.
