What's the most expensive gun you regret

$1300 Ruger red label. Shot clays one day at my FIL's.....bug bit me so I bought the Ruger. Saw real quick that getting into that was going to be ongoingly expensive (as well as the fact that I wasn't much good at it).
Got my money back out of the Ruger though!

I can't think of anything I regret buying, but I have paid a lot for a gun before and been underwhelmed after getting it.

I've got a piston AR I've got around $2K invested in. Its a nice rifle, but it doesn't do anything my $500 PSA's can't do. Some might say its more reliable, but I've never had one of my cheap PSA gun's jam. So far, they're even. Its also as heavy as an M1A.

Ok guys the other thread talking about what is too much has me thinking have you guys ever bought a gun for too much and regretted it? Or maybe you just spent too much on one and got in trouble with the missus. Let's hear it.
I've never spent more than 2000 on a gun before. It was a barrett rec 7 ar pistol with a tail hook brace. Had to get rid of it, as always when money trouble hits, and took a 300 loss.
I Also wanted a steel frame kahr so bad that I paid 800$ for one through Davidson gallery of guns i didn't even notice that i got a 40 instead of the intended 9...I know, I know. The only excuse I have is I was young and single making slightly more than minimum wage.
Those are my 2 biggest regrets, with guns anyways... you fellas have any?

I regret trading 3 SW N frames for a nice condition Trapdoor .45-70. The Trapdoor wasn't as nice as the 3 Smiths I traded: .44 2nd model HE, 1917 refurbed at SW in 1920, and a post war .38/44 heavy duty. The Trapdoor is gone too...

PSA AKV. I bought the fancy nutmeg wood grain version with the cheese grater. I liked the idea of it way more than the reality of it. The wooden grip hurts my dainty hands and it’s heavier than I imagined it would be.

GLD Salient Arms Grey 12 ga semi auto. If there were ever an over priced shoulder buster...... that was it.

Should at least be able to get your money back out of that one though right? Maybe some profit?

Not expensive really but it was a kimber pro cdp ii. It was so long ago that it was like $900 new on the shelf. To Kimber’s credit they kept sending parts after the warranty expired if I called. I had zero clue about 1911 internals at the time and I learned a ton from old posts from a guy who’s name escapes me. He frequented the high road and m1911 dot org. Thanks to his posts I was able to successfully change out parts like sears, hammers and sear springs.

I was also able to really hate that gun 😂. Any 1911 after that has been a springer or a Colt.

It was over 20 years ago...
Oh, you mean when pinned N-frames were affordable! ........never mind, its been longer than that since they were pinned :( ! Thank you for OFFICIALLY making me feel old.

DSA FN-FAL, not cheap and useless in semiauto mode. MOA single shot with gas system shut off, 6" vertical strings in repeater mode. Took a huge bath on selling that boat anchor.

I bought the .44 HE as part of a package for $500 which also included a Colt 1917 with dual .45 acp and Colt cylinders and a Colt SAA .45 Nevada Born In Battle commemorative. That was a deal but about as good as the other one which got me a pre war Colt Detective Special .38, a Colt SAA 2nd Generation .357 nickel finish and a very early production (November 1917) Winchester model 1917 Enfield.

Strange, I had to twist their arm a little but I found their CS to be prett

Two guns I regret buying

Sig p938 SAS
SIG p365 XL

Both had issues and CS laughed at me.
My husband and I both have P938's and both of us have had issues with jams. The first time it happened to me, I had hollow points in mine. That did not make me feel good about having my carry gun not be reliable. Did you try to send yours in for a warranty claim?

My issue was the takedown / slide lock pin would fall out if the gun. It happened shooting a few times. Sig told me it was a non captured takedown pin and it could do that. Mind you I own a 1911 I know it isn't the same but its not captured either and it doesn't fall out... sig refused to look at the gun and told me if I wanted to pay for delivery and pay their gunsmith rate to look at it they would be more than happy to look at it but she reassured me it was not an issue with the firearm.

My 365xl was rusting after a month and CS told me it was a maintence issue. And that I should wipe and reoil the gun every time I carry it... it was less than a month old. It shouldn't rust that fast other firearms I abused way more did not show any sign of rust. So yeah. Screw sig

Edited to say everyone ive talked to who has had to deal with sig cs has had a bad experience. The "upgrade" on the p320 they were nice about but if you have an actual issue they tell you to kick rocks... so Goodluck lol

My 226 had cosmetic damage consisting of a dink in the anodized frame that exposed the bare aluminum that was there when I transferred the gun, I just didn't catch it until I got home. I should have caught it in the store and refused it.

I figured I'd call Sig and see what they had to say, fully expecting them to tell me to pound sand. We went back and forth a little bit but they finally sent me a brand new gun with upgraded night sights and E2 grips.

Gees. No very good news to hear that their customer service sucks. Not sure what I'm going to do about this one. If it's so touchy and my grip could be a problem (as I was told by someone else), it may have to go. If is frustrating because Sig is the only brand I am having an issue with.

Well good news it the market is high, sell it now and wait for the market to drop to replace it. I guess @frakncylons got lucky or maybe my buddies and I are unlucky? Idk lol

You might have a good or bad experience, you won't know till you call.

I'd at least give them a chance.

Mine was not all that expensive but more than most of my others -a Dan Wesson 9mm Valkyrie at $1,299. I haven't been impressed with it's performance and, as a result, I don't shoot it.

No 'cause I typically stay on the um, less expensive side. A Glock is typically as fancy as I go. 😂

However... there is a firearm I am lusting after in the BST for purely collector value (i.e. just want to own it, not shoot it) that is well over the 4 figure mark. If these were normal times I'd do it, but I fear we may currently be at the peak of gun prices for decades to come and I won't live long enough to see it become worth more (or even as much) as I paid for it.

I can see paying 50 - 100% more for something inexpensive during these times but I don't think it's smart to do the same for high dollar items. :(

First .22 I ever shot was a Nylon 66 my Daddy had ( he's still got it). Found a mint one a couple of years ago and scooped it up, mine and his are both tube fed through stock. Got an Uncle that has one that is magazine fed, only one I've personally seen not in a catalog.

I agree. I complained once about the 238 only coming with one mag when the gun was 650 brand new(when they first came out). Then the spare mag was 45$? For a 6 round, single stack, 380 mag, that felt steep and I told them so. They sent me a new mag and a coupon for 20% off another. Beside kahr sending me a hat, I've never had a company send me anything so at least that made me happy.

I never regret BUYING anything. I did make a trade one time. I was in need of a 3-1/2” duck gun. I was looking at getting a Browning A5. Found a guy wanting to trade one for an over under. I had a Ruger Red Label 20 gauge. It was a great gun. I meet the guy after dark and a local Sheetz gas station. I inspected the A5 as best as I could without tearing it completely down. It looked good on the outside and part of the inside that I could see. We traded. As with every new firearm I buy, I completely disassembled and cleaned the next day. Well I take the buttstock off and get to the action tube and spring. They are COMPLETELY RUSTED and a few holes in the tube. The spring was broke in 2 places. I called Browning a few days later after trying to remove the tube. Luckily Browning stands behind their lifetime warranty. They sent me a NEW spring and tube assembly. I installed and cleaned the rest of the shotgun and it shot great. But I’d rather have my Ruger back! Later sold the gun and got a Benelli SBE3. I love it

8 3/8” Smith & Wesson 629 that I bought in 1990. I was young and dumb and got a DWI. Had to sell it to pay lawyer bills. Hindsight is 20/20.
