I don't have but one 7.62x39 but it's needing to be fed, what do the folks here recommend?

It's just a baby AK and wont be suppressed.

Wolf Mil Classic is about as good as anything else I've shot. Golden Tiger is good. About the only thing I shoot sparingly is Tula.

I'll add in Wolf's Barnaul produced mil-spec ammo in the green box - I like anything that's lacquered with sealed primers and bullets.

Sam has it in stock as of this post: https://www.sgammo.com/product/wolf...-fmj-mil-spec-ammo-lacquer-and-sealant-wolf-p

Unclear on how come: dirty, too precious to waste, other? Genuinely curious, as I have used it with no noticeable negative effects, but also haven't compared it with others for accuracy, etc. Just plinking ammo.

For me it's because Tulammo (the black box stuff commonly found at Walmart and elsewhere) is the only commercial 7.62x39 ammo I've had multiple failures with in several of my AKs. Besides the repeated QC issues, it consistently seems to be less accurate, far dirtier, and no cheaper than any of the other Russian commercial offerings. The only thing it seems to have going for it is its ubiquitousness in brick-and-mortar retailers - it is often easier to find than Wolf, GT, Bears, etc. Buying in bulk and online circumvents that.

Second all this. Only ammo I've ever opened a new box and found a bunch of rusty cases too.

Golden tiger is the only one o far that I have any real experience with. Been through probably 500 rounds without issue.

I have a case of the lacquered wolf stuff, seems good to me.
Re: Tula, I got a case of the 75 grn .223 and it seems good, grouped smaller than PPU 75grn did. I also got 3 cases of the range friendly (non-steel) tula 62 grn also good so far.

Some of the "boutique" Tula stuff is better than the Tula factory-manufactured "Walmart" ammo, for lack of a better word. The 8M3 reboot was popular and well received for awhile before batch quality started taking a dump. It was/is produced in Russia's Ulyanovsk factory - not the Tula plant. 8M3 was exclusively Tula branded for a time being, but now it's being marketed under the Wolf name as well, although it's still the same Uly-made ammo.

I’ve been shooting that green box milspec Wolf and Golden Tiger since I bought a few thousand of each. I’ve never had a problem with Walmart Tula, but never really bought that stuff in bulk. Though I have shot at least 1,500 rounds of that stuff over the years. I never really strive for accuracy like that in AKs so I’ve never been able to tell the difference in any 7.62x39. It all runs for me.

I’m getting down to the last couple hundred of a case of Tula range safe 62 gr steel case .223. Had no problems with that stuff at all. Fired it in .223 Aks, Sig556’s and ARs.

@BurnedOutGeek, a few notes/thoughts - that's 20 cpr, or about average (actually a bit high ... better stuff is out there closer to 18-19 cpr delivered). Also, remember to factor in any applicable taxes and shipping costs. Unless you prefer to store ammo loose, those 40-round boxes are crappy to pack in ammo cans. It's Tula, which I don't like (but YMMV and it never hurts to try some and see what your guns like). Also, the picture appears to be wrong, as it shows SP ammo. Do you want FMJ or SP? I've had some issues with SP ammo feeding in a couple of my 7.62x39 shooters.

    Just my two cents.

SGammo sells GT at a DEAL
    https://www.sgammo.com/product/gold...d-case-762x39-fmj-bt-golden-tiger-124-grain-r
but they also have other Vympel made ammo which is just as good. Usually Red Army sucks but this stuff is as good as GT or better since it's an HPBT
    https://www.sgammo.com/product/red-...x39-hpbt-124-grain-bi-metal-hollow-point-ammo

I buy alot of Bernaul-made 123gr FMJ from Monarch at Academy when it goes on sale. Both of these run great in my Npap and MAK90. Same as brown and silver bear ammo

    https://www.academy.com/shop/browse/outdoors/hunting/predator-hunting-shop/ammunition--1/rifle-ammunition?facet=mfName_ntk_cs:"Monarch"&facet=ads_f10506_ntk_cs:"7.62X39+Soviet"

FWIW here's a ballistics chart on that stuff straight from Mother Russia

I'm suddenly reminded of this guy from a previous job who claimed that the M14 was the "finest implement of battle ever devised in history, on earth".
He had one tucked in the top of his closet at home and he claimed that he was just waiting for WROL so he could shoot looters at 1,000 yds because his M14 was better and more accurate than the army's current sniper rifle.
He had like 50 rounds of 308 for it, but it was special "armor defeatable" kind, and 308 was also the best cartridge ever so he only needed 50.

He called me a queer for owning AK's.

Now there's a man who is either one generation too late or one generation too early. And. Had clearly never been forced to carry one in the field ... much less in combat.

Wolf just went down a couple notches. I had a round somehow come apart in the gun. It would not fire and when extracted it left the bullet lodged in the lands and the action dusted with a dose of unburnt powder. A hard stop with an AK was a first for me.

Golden Tiger has been pretty accurate in my AKs, and very accurate in my x39 ARs. Bought a Chinese SKS at the Dixie show today, and I’ll try GT in it tomorrow. Tula x39 is some of the dirtiest ammo I’ve tried. Wolf 125 soft point is also accurate, and has proven itself(to me anyway)as a great deer cartridge.
