What's your competition gun?

pix201248600.jpg I shoot cdp, So it will be some type of 1911, generally a rock island, but I've bought a caspian and I think I'll run it a few times just to change it up

Add budget to this list which could also dictate division.

I'm poor. Im planning on doing the IDPA matches only at H20. I've been burning the range up this year just so I don't suck really bad. I really like the VP9 but I'm never hear people talking about them. It's always a 17L or 34.

There is nothing wrong at all with the vp9. It is very capable of holding its own at any match.

I like the VP9. Sweet trigger and decent ergos. IDPA is nice in the sense that equipment isn’t going to be outrageous price wise. You would also be setup for production division in USPSA but may need a few more mags and pouches. When you get into limited and especially open class is where you start seeing equipment costs skyrocket.

On a note, I noticed in the thread where the guys are shooting with the famous guys that it stated that you couldn't use a Sherpa holster, why is this?
I've got to get a OSB holster for what ever I decide on.

People have shot themselves during a draw because of finger placement. I’d go bladetech and call it a day. This assumes it’s IDPA compliant.

ETA:
Also assume you meant SERPA and not a holster belonging to this dude.

I don't really compete but I have shot my Shield and will shoot my 2.0 compact for IDPA. Shield in CCP and compact in SSP. My daughter is using a 2.0 full size in ESP because I replaced the trigger with one from Apex. There is a wide variety of pistols at our club.
2 guys shooting Canik TP9SA
A few shields including 45acp
A few Walther PPQs
Lot's of 1911s
And more Glocks than I can count including one G29 occasionally.
There was one guy shooting a Smith SDVE but he may have changed recently.
2 revolver shooters with 38, 9mm and 45acp guns depending on their mood.

I acually shoot the VP9 decently. I was thinking with something a little longer I could become a little more accurate. I guess I'll never know until I try a match. That's why I'm leaning 17L or 34

The handgun will not be your short comings.
You over thinking this whole thing will be. Get out and shoot what you have. You will suprise yourself

I’m not an IDPA shooter so please confirm this but I don’t think the 17L will fit in the box. 34 will though I believe. I’d recommend shooting the VP9 because it doesn’t sound like it’s going to hold you back. Get a feel for it before spending any cash. At least you’ll know what you’re looking for.

Glock boys will be Glock boys. Glocks are great, so is the VP9. Just go shoot (some USPSA):D

17L will not fit box. 34 will.

Okay, this is gonna be a short lived thread. I really like the VP9 and I feel comfortable with it. Had a buddy offer me a Smoking deal on a 34 so I'll probably pick that up because of the price.

Ok, what kind of holster do I need. I'm poor but I don't mind spending for good stuff

I use a safariland als. Pretty much any decent owb holster that doesn’t have a drop or extend away from the body and you will be good to go. Next you will have to find a sweet vest!

The aforementioned blade tech will get you done for not much money. You can spend more if you like the game but you can also show up in a t shirt with an IWB (not Aiwb) and your mags in your pants pocket and have fun.

I've got a sweet vest (size Medium, tan and never worn) I'll give him if it will get him out to the competitions. Then, he can come dressed as he likes to try USPSA and see what he prefers. PM me if you want the vest.

Why does everybody wear vest?? I don't think I want one

I use one of Chief Jason's owb holsters, what ever you get, make sure it's some type of passive retention holster, if it has a retention strap you have to use it. Drawing from cover isn't as hard as it sounds, and is really a useful skill to develop, oh yeah, be prepared if you miss a target, someone may hold out a hand full of rocks, and say here try these you might do better

Funny how basically nobody wears/carries the gear/guns they use for IDPA outside of the matches... lol... Except old Terry. He actually rocks that 34 daily...
I wear some type of 1911 , and a shoot me first vest , regularly,

So, it's you and two other guys in the whole state. Everyone else swaps guns, holsters, and cover before and after...

I myself am often guilty. I usually shoot a 34 these days, but rarely with the uniform IDPA vest anymore... Although I have been carrying it more often in the cold weather... Of course I also shoot my 19 or 43 in competition from IWB quite often...
