Hearing a weird sound from front right tire on turning left. It's sort of a sshhh-ing sound with a tiny bit of grinding. Nothing looks amiss from a casual once-over.
Back in the old days I'd have jacked the car up and taken the wheel off for a look, but not these days! I actually repacked a wheel bearing in my youth. (A really long time ago!)
Any ideas?
Sounds like I might be headed for the dealership soon!

*** I've made an appointment to have things checked out. We'll see what happens!
Thanks for all your thoughts on this, maybe it'll be something easy/fast/cheap. (One can dream, right?)

Wheel bearing? CV joint? Have a trusted mechanic take a look.
Yeah, I can choose between the dealership, where they take appointments, which is nice, but I don't really know them OR I can go to my usual place, where I've gone for years, and probably sit around all day long! LoL. They won't give me a loaner car because I didn't buy mine there.
This is the first thing to go wrong with my car! It's been such a winner, and I suppose something was bound to happen eventually. Hope it's not the start of things going wrong one after another.....

Probably cv shaft

Leave out vital details.

What kind of vehicle?

CV would be a clunking noise.

Pads, caliper, rotor only when braking

The Toyota Corolla currently in my driveway does the same when turning right and it’s an carrier bearing in the trans/inner axle

It could be a wheel bearing, but not sure on the year make and model.

Had a Renegade come through the shop with brake noise before it’s first oil change

Make, model, new or used, mileage since last brake job?
Sounds like brake pads warning tabs scratching the rotor.

Check your brake pads first. CV axles USUALLY make a "clicking" sound when they are bad. Good luck, hope its a cheap fix.

^^^ This. My first thought was brake pads.

I don't hear it when braking, only on left turns. 2008 Corolla. What did they tell you on cost to repair yours?

Around 75, 000 miles, Corolla, 2008, I've never had work done on brakes, Got it uses 8 years ago. All I
ve really done is keep the oil changed and get new tires and once a battery. I'll have them look at the brakes, but it doesn't do the noise when braking in a straight line, only on semi-tight lefts, braking or not. Going around a road curve won't produce it, but turning onto the road will. So I'm not using the brakes then.
I used to know so much about my old beater cars and do lots of stuff myself, but now I'm old and cars aren't like they used to be! I remember the days of tune-ups in the yard....
Does any of the above info on the car help?
Thanks for the response.

Thanks, so do I. Once a car starts having problems continually, it's time to let it go. I hope this isn't the start of the decline, because I love the car! It was my first one with a CD player. LoL.

No idea cost wise, it’s something I haven’t decided if it’s something I wanna tackle myself.

Plus I haven’t dug in to it further. It might just need the whole axle replaced as the axle shaft that goes in to the inner portion might be done. Might need the trans case cracked open.

Depending on many things, an axle replacement could be as cheap as 2-400 all the way up to 800 or more.

I know if I do it it would take a couple hours at least and *insert parts store here* should have an axle for under 100.

But really just speculating without getting touchy feely under the car

Also grab a pic of your brakes. . I have seen and experienced weird stuff with them

Heck it could be a suspension component also lol

I've worked on older Toyotas demonstrating this with it being nothing more then a bent dust cover. It is light gauge metal and was able to straighten it out by hand without removing it from the assembly. Recall it always being the right hand wheel, same side of road where most road debris resides.

OK, I've made an appointment at the semi-local car place. Let the praying begin for something not too pricey and that doesn't take ALL DAY! (Just in case, I've put a rental can on hold, so I can get outta there if it looks like a long process. I hate sitting in a waiting room for more than 4 hours, though I've done 8 once!)
Thanks for your responses, I'll let you know who got it right! (I hope not me, and it's something fast and cheap-ish!)

I'm pretty sure if I try to get a pic of the brakes, I'll get vertigo bending down! I do have an appointment now to have them looked at, plus some other stuff.
I do miss the days of doing stuff myself, but I guess that's why God invented mechanics.
Thanks for your response!

Now that's an interesting thought! Thanks!

The car is not making the sound anymore. It was a clogged evaporator core, and the ssshhh-ing must have been water sloshing around in the car, because it's not doing it anymore, but the car smells like some stuff they used to clean the system out. Anyway, now the fan is making noises when turned up the two highest settings, which I didn't notice till I got home. (It's always something!)
Also, I'll need a timing chain cover gasket as soon as my budget allows.
Thanks for all the responses.

Do you take it to a dealer for all maintenance?
I was taking it to the Ford place because I took my other cars to them and just got familiar with them. But they don't take appointments, and since I needed an airbag recall service, I went to the Toyota place, and so that's where I was for this latest issue. At least you can get an appointment and if you reserve ahead you can get a rental car if you want to leave. I was only there from 7-10.30, not too bad. We don't have anybody in town that works on cars.

What town do you ive in? Sounds like we need to open another shop there.
I live in Wagram, and yes, bring us a car place! I'm traveling to Aberdeen for my car stuff right now, but it's ok, I was in school in the area and go there often in fall and winter, so it's not a huge deal. Something closer would be great, though.
