What is it with the seemingly stupid tends these days?
Wheels wider than the tires causing side walls and beads to be wider than the tread. And "stanced" suspension that cuts the contract patch in half. I'm sure tire shops love this as it lineout decreases tire life.
Another, massive rims, many in excess of 26 inches on late model sedans with about 1 inch of rubber.
Vehicles with either of these set ups require one to leave extra space if behind them as they slam their brakes on for every little bump in the road.

Maybe I'm old fashioned but I can't see putting anything bigger than a 20 inch wheel on a full size car. Maybe 18 I something the size of my Veloster.
On a Jeep to be used off road, 17 inch. Only mall crawlers have 20 or bigger.
Never got curb rash on my 2010 Rubicon. 37x12.5 on 17's. :D

Agreed! Saw this at Lowes and had to take a pic. Z71 Off Road?!?! Puhhhhhleaassssseee!!! Not on blades!

Moved here from MN and this was purely a southern trend for sure.

OP, your rubicon sounds nice. Cleanse our pallets with a pic of that. Here is my 4Runner. As soon as I got it I took off the 18’s and put on 17’s to have better, cheaper AT tire options.

Totally agree. I have 18's on my 3 series. I'll be putting 17's on my Tacoma with 32" tires.

Worse than this though is the "stance" trend! They take a 12" wide wheel and stretch a 10.5" tire on it. Then they add so much damn camber that the wheels are at a 20-30degree angle, resulting in the smallest contact patch ever and a wrecked suspension.

Watched a YouTube video of public race Nuremberg day. Any idiot with a "stanced" BMW didn't think to reset his suspension for proper wheel position. He lost it bad I a corner and totaled his expensive waste of money.

18" wheels are plenty big enough......and thats just for clearing large brakes.

Even my little stock Mazda 5 has those stupid low profile tires on plate sized wheels.

The new MX5 has 17's. Might have 18 optional.
I have seen many Veloster owners say they bought a set of 17's to use for road trips if they bought it with the optional 18's.
Mine has the base 17. Fine in the long trip to MA.
The 20's in my wife's Charger were excellent on that same trip last summer.
But anything bigger with less rubber would be brutal.

Kids.
I did laughably stupid crap to my crappy cars. Man I cringe just thinking about how impossibly stupid I was. Don't know how I survived. God I was an idiot.
I though that iff you lowered something and stuck a Weber carb on it, it then became a 930 Turbo.

Sounds like how my Dremel and Tapco made everything SKS an AK lol

Ready for the "carolina squat" to be over

This^^^.
All it’ll take is the next wannabe country star to make a $500.00 YouTube video with hot chicks in Daisy Dukes and bikini tops to feature some dumbass Custom truck of some kind, and the “squat” will Be last year’s news....

Hadn't really thought about it too much but maybe I'm guilty of some of this crazy crap. I always thought pickups looked stupid with the ass end being 4 to 6" higher than the front, as stupid as they do the other way also.
I'm a little "height challenged" (5'9") shall we say and when God was passing out LEGS I thought he said EGGS and I hate eggs. When I got my Silverado I almost had to get a running start to get into the drivers seat so I went to my friendly truck accessory story to see if they could lower and level the darned thing.
300.00 later and I can get in easily and it's perfectly level..... Love it....

Doesn't it point skyward when you load a bunch of stuff in the back though?

Yo dawgg!! I bleeves dems 22's beez more of a cultural thang. Dem goofy cracka's decided to glom on as well.

About the heaviest thing I've had "in the back" is the tongue weight of a boat which is about 2 to 300 pounds and that drops it maybe 1/2 inch. If it becomes an issue I can always add load levelers or air shocks...

Gotcha. That not too bad a rise though and I guess you're not hauling a lot of sacks of concrete etc.

There is a guy running around Charlotte with a stanced/cambered import that when I first saw it, I thought, dang, motorcycles have a bigger contact patch than this dude, lol.
And I still see quiet a bit of the "skating out" look around here. Lots of mall crawlers have the wheels/tires sticking way out past the fenders.
The Mazda CX-5 I just bought a couple months ago came factory with 19 inch wheels. I have to say, it rides very well, not harsh at all, but boy, those tires are a odd size and are pricey to replace. Meanwhile, my old 02 F-150 is still riding on plasti dipped stock 16 inchers, haha.

California lean, or whatever they call it now, where they jack the front of the truck up and drop the rear. Not looking at anything but the sky. Idiots.

Carolina squat, I believe it originated here, unfortunately.

I've had the fast cars and properly jacked up 4wd trucks when younger. Basic vehicles now but do want to put a blower on my Z71.

I think that squat started in Georgia. Georgia is handy to blame it on any way.

I thought the "high front/low rear" look for trucks came from people imitating the off road racing trucks. Around here they're derisively referred to as "coon hunters" because the headlights are shining up in the tree tops.

Most trucks these days don't haul anything heavier than a few groceries or a bag of trash, and never leave the pavement. Mostly an image thing.

And the stupid loud “cat-back” exhaust or something? They basically straight pipe the small block V8’s. That and the squat are supposed to attract a mate? Phew!!

My truck squats with a pallet of 50# bags of concrete or with 8 tons of excavator and trailer behind it, but I guess the “working man squat” ain’t cool...

Heh, that crap is huge now in my area. It's originally for dune hopping out in the desert. Watching these idiots mimic it here is funny to a point, at best. It's pretty annoying.

Well I'll have you know mister that mine squats as much as yours does. You take mine to the gun club and put 3 big assed, lazy shooter friends on the tailgate and watch her squat!! I've never understood how everyone seems to pick MY truck for their sitting break.....

Our 2010 jk came with 20's, they promptly got removed for some 17's and 35x12.50 BFG/MTs. Sold all 5 of the 20" wheels and tires for 300 bucks just to get them out of my way. Lol

While we're complaining about loud, don't forget about all the guys putting pipes on their bikes. There's nothing more obnoxious than to be enjoying a peaceful day at the beach or on the BRP when a group of pirates roll up working their throttle's. Like a 900lb bike with maybe a hundred ponies is a hotrod.

With some roads around my area that are basically paved pothole to pothole and railroad track crossing that will knock a filing loose that already reek havoc on front end alignment I gotta wonder what they’d do to these rims with basically rubberbands strapped around them? I have to think there’s a greater chance for damage than”normal” wheel-tire combos.

When I had a civic, I hauled some firewood in it one time. I took the front seat out and put some tarps down and packed it floor-to-ceiling, as well as the trunk. Only had a few miles to take it, but I got it done.

Now that I've upgraded to a Camry, I can haul anything. I had 150 bd ft of lumber in it just the other day, I've hauled 16 ft 2x12s. Pulled a couple deer out with it this year. If I ever get in a spot where I can afford another truck, I won't know what to do.

I replaced the 16 inch stock steels on out Patriot with 17 inch alloy. Only had one expensive tire option. But dozens with the 17. 17 is the new 15. :D
The Challenger GT has 19's. But the same model tire, same width/diameter costs less in a 20 inch. I checked. Don;t have a Challenger but I like killing time check stuff like that. Challenger is on my list for next car choices.

37x12.5R17 TRXUS MT's parking the Jeep. :D
This was before I swapped the steel wheels for alloy.
Note the engine to gas tank skid plate kit too. That helped highway mileage.

2010 with 195k a new Jasper tranny went in already and I can't remember how much other money I've throw into that "daily driver" before she got her car. Money well spent now that it's a full time "toy". G2 5:13's and 35x12.50's get about 16.5mpg, ARB rear and OX up front pushing some G2 Axel's as well. So far pretty confident in the performance. Keeping it till this comes out.
