    Jus another rant ...

I’m not understanding the threats of tickets and imprisonment if you are “out and about” but we need to turn prisoners free so they don’t get the flu.

A lot of the counties around Dallas are cracking down on people going out of their houses. Cops are patrolling neighborhoods and parks and have said they will issue tickets and arrest people.

I despise politicians and there need for power and control. I am not fond of people especially ones from third world countries.

I hate the city and the attitude of the people who live here.

The freedom that living in the country offers is wonderful. But please don’t tell these city dwellers anything about it, we are full, no need to apply.

Are you sure about tickets? Most places where they issues stay in place orders made it very clear that is something they will NOT be doing. Not even in NYC. Except in extreme cases.

I have yet to see any threats of arrest, just fines if people are flagrantly disregarding an order to stay apart...and even those are few and far between.

Ha! My wife and I just took groceries to her parents because they can't leave the house. My wife was worried we'd get pulled over...I told her not to worry and on the way, we see the car wash was packed! Music bumpin' people hangin' out like a Saturday afternoon...

Bloated government. Keeps getting bigger. Pres. Trump should VETO this pos bill, do it on TV, tell us it is full of waste and when they remove it all he will sign a clean bill, say 50 pages or less.

I was out and about in CLT today and hardly saw any cops at all. Traffic was up from the past couple days, and nobody was getting harassed that I could see.

But they could if they wanted to and who would stop them?

The power of .gov passed ridiculous years ago when stop-and-frisk was a thing in NYC.

Someone with a better memory of more historical knowledge than me might correct me but I’d estimate that date that answers your question to be somewhere around 1865 or so.

Although it could be argued the real date was 1794 during the Whiskey Rebellion.

Can't find the link anymore but I did copy the headline.

Police allowed to issue tickets, make arrests for 'shelter in place' violations across North Texas
Some Dallas-area officers have been given the authority to stop people to make sure they are essential workers and not people just out and about.

he should hold a big press conference with everyone and read every single ridiculous line item they have inserted into the stimulus bill and say this is what your leaders think of you. in a time of crisis, when you had no job and no money coming in, they insisted on going even further in debt to provide 25 million to the kennedy center, 300 million for migration and refugee assistance etc etc. this is what the people you voted for thought was important while you were out of work and stuck at home - now im forced with the choice of signing this crappy ass bill or denying you the money you need to eat or keep from getting evicted, and i just want you to know about it.

meanwhile pelosi is suggesting any further stimulus packages are a chance to advance more progressive agendas

I noticed that both this morning and afternoon. We’re reduced to 1/4 of our normal staff at work and this is my week of rotating in. It’s been nice and I’ve never made better time, but today was busier and I saw more cars parked at stores in town.

I don't claim to have a lot of historical knowledge, but my first thought on seeing 1865 was "that's WAY too late to be the whiskey rebellion, must be thinking about the civil war"

Speaking of such - where does the legal authority come from which allows a county board to issue stay-at-home orders? So far I have seen nothing in the Wake County ordinances nor the NC General Statutes that specify such powers. Perhaps it is implied?

Actually, I found it in the Durham County proclamation. NCGS 166A-19.31. I'm not sure how a statute so overly broad as this could survive judicial scrutiny.

I believe all this has been a test to so how people will react to the government taking control of healthcare, the economy and peoples lives in general.

I'm thinking they won't have much trouble.

All in the Emergency Management Act
    166A-19.31 specifically as you found.

Also if you combine Ch. 130A which is the public health statues.... pretty much allows whatever action needs to be done.

All Civic Leaders are Authoritarians now. It's a disease worse than the Chinese Flu, and it's infected every political body from the most local on up.

Actually just yesterday, I proudly drove into Charlotte, picked up some paperwork for my wife from her office and then back home. I loaded my guns and ammo and drove almost to Ashboro to shoot sporting clay's and then stopped on the way home and shot 2 rounds of 5 stand.
Had a very nice day, traffic was light and I was exercising my rights as a FREE citizen, which I will do yet again today, tomorrow AND Sunday...By Monday I'll need to clean several shotguns so I'll probably be at home if anyone needs me for something....

(@CZfool68 actually beat me to it by a considerable amount, but I missed seeing it.)

In retrospect, I'm going to backdate to 1787, when the confederation of states was effectively undermined.
