When I hit the lottery.....Medford knives

I’ve never found the tanto to be a useful blade, and certainly not on a folder. I have a few, have thought about grinding them to get some belly, but then just buy another knife.

These things are pretty awesome in the hand. Burly is an understatement! Very high quality.

@thrillhill can get these I think. I have fondled a couple of his. Also, @Studentofthegun has or had one I believe.

I couldn't justify that kind of money for a pocket knife. Kudos to you if you can.

I can't imagine what they do to it to make it cost so much. They'd have a hard time convincing me that their knife cuts $1400 better than my $50 kershaw.

Tanto blades are only good for knife fighting.IMHO, And I'm way too old and smart to bring a knife to a gun fight.

OpticsPlanet didn’t even list what the blade steel is o_O Thankfully the pommel’s D2.

<4” steel and Ti folder for $1,500 with a story about the Roman Empire. They’re not marketing the blade, they’re marketing the feeling of owning it as if you were a Roman warrior.

You'll also want to steer clear of Microtech or Marfione knives, as they're also prohibitively expensive.

It had better come with a built in plasma cutter for that kinda scratch. I've seen authentic Japanese swords that were sharper and cheaper.

$8.95 and cuts stuff and matches my underwear

I like the drop point version of the Praetorian.

It's a big knife.

Pictures below compared to Ruger LCP2.

(If you are interested in Medford Knives but the Praetorian series is too expensive check out the 187 series. They are a pretty good value on the high end.

Find a small shop and don't pay close to list price. We did use a 187DP to clean a snapping turtle just to see if it could be done with a folder without exploding it in a million pieces. It worked. Worth it? Meh. Whatever. Cheaper than most Rolex watches, and more fun. They have a production line available as well that's even cheaper. Not cheap. But cheaper.)

Side note:

The Kizer GTI Titanium is a good budget alternative to Medford's that are still made with quality materials. (As long as you can overlook the (most likely) govt subsidized/forced-labor and buy a Chinese made product, which of course nowadays includes most Kershaws, CRKT, Gerber, etc.)

It's a big knife too. It carries almost as big as the Praetorian and may even be a little heavier. Other than being a liner-lock it seems to be almost as tough as the Medford's.

It's a shame that it has been discontinued. It's a really good knife. There is plenty of stock available in the pipeline right now. That will end in the next 2 or 3 months.

So how do you like the Suntory? Always been tempted, but never pulled the trigger. :p

Not terrible. Not great. I kinda think of it as Suntory's "base-line" whiskey.
I wanted to find out about the Japanese whiskey since Suntory bought two of my favorite distilleries Beam (and subsequently dropped the age statement from Knob Creek which pissed me off) and Laphroaig.

It's a little "lite" for me. Not enough "wood". But, it makes a good summer-time sipper when it's hot outside, and not a terrible mixer either. I won't loose sleep when I empty that bottle, but would eventually replace it.
