Thought this would be an interesting question to poll the members.
It will close after 30 days. I go once a year.
Regular exams help to screen for glaucoma and other eye problems that can be corrected if diagnosed early.

Thank you for the reminder, I need to make an appointment.

My eye doc's office harasses me about starting in Dec. I eventually cave.

They get me in right away to dig something out pretty regular so I figure it's in my interest to be a patient.

I've seen 4 different eye dr's in ~ 8 years and have been quite displeased. The Rx is always off (too strong), along with problems at night.
I went to Johnson Optometric (in Fuquay and Garner), explained my frustration to Michelle L. Sall, she did the exam, came up with what sounded like to high of an Rx, then explained the lens has a specific back cut to fix the focus and Rx setting. Put them in and bingo, I could easily see brick grout at 100+ yards. Then with eye insurance, a 1 yr supply of the contacts cost me $8.
I'll be going back.

Thanks for the reminder. I had a reminder card from my Dr. last month but forgot to set up an appt.

I had the beginnings of a cataract last year that bears watching.

My DL expires this year. I kind of cheated on the eye exam last time, so I'm sure I'm gonna fail it this time.

Better make an appt.

Hope you have insurance.
I go once a year. I got baby bifocals last year. This year I can tell an unfortunate difference in distance clarity. It might be time to touch up my lasik finally.

I opt for the eye coverage. It's supposed to cover a new pair of glasses every year but I haven't used that feature yet.

They can do that?

Yep, I did TLC about 15 years ago and they have a lifetime warranty. But the eye dr has told me that it's not worth it for clarity alone. I can see what amounts to be regular resolution TV vs HD tv. I usually won't even put my glasses on unless I'm outside.

I have the high option eye coverage(insurance) it pays 200 frames and 50% lens or something like that. The wife paid around 280 for major bifocals that would have cost $867.00.

Every year around November. Have a great eye doc in Charlotte that I've been going to for around 4 years now.

You’ll know when it gets bad enough. You’ll have a hard time seeing the writing on highway signs if the sun is not shining directly on them.

Bright lights in retail stores will cause glare and you’ll wish you had on a ball cap. It’s like sun shining through a dirty windshield.

Si had not been to the eye Dr. for ten years!

One thing I cannot emphasize enough. Go annually as you get close to 50 and beyond, if for no other reason to let them test the pressure in your eyes. Pressure in your eyes (that you can’t feel) is glaucoma and will kill the optic nerve, which blinds you. My mom found out the hard way.

Had an exam in Nov. My new glasses are in the mail to me overseas. Before that however was 2 yrs due to down range.

About 14 mos for me. Have an appt scheduled at the end of Feb. Looking forward to the bifocals I turned down last year.....

Dana Elcar, Pete from MacGuyver, lost his eyesight to glaucoma. They wrote it into the show.

That's a good point. A couple forums ago there was a member named @eyefly who is an optometrist here in Charlotte. I went to him for years and was very happy. He had to refer me to CEENTA for something and those goobers wrote me the worst scrip - couldn't see right, headaches, etc. and the doctor about dropped his clipboard when I asked him to write a special Rx for shooting glasses. I quit CEENTA and am very happy with my gun nut eye-doc. PM me if you want a referral - I won't dox him in the open forum.

My wife was diagnosed with glaucoma last year, 41. Said she probably had it for many many years. But her eye pressure was within normal standards. She had migraines since law school and could never figure out why. This random eye dr sent her to a specialist who confirmed it. When she started her eye drops her migraines when from everyday to maybe once a month.

Probably pushing 3 years. Need to make an appointment. My glasses have enough micro scratches that they are starting to look hazy. Insurance is okay, just not great and by the time I get the flex frames, scratch and impact resistant lens, it tends to add up to more than my cheap ass want to pay.

Zenni.com makes decent glasses. I went cheap AF for one pair and got out for $15 delivered. My regular prescription with bifocals, etc etc was $55. Yes they're making them in India but when the price is 10% of the local guy...

Hadn't gone in a few years so I finally went less than a year ago. Found out reason my glasses no longer seemed to work was because of cataracts. Was told one eye is ready to have cataract removed and other eye would be ready soon and that was 10 months ago. Put surgery off as I wanted to spend summer in the pool with grandkids. Just as I was getting ready to get the eye surgery done I had to have a stroke in September. Now Neuro keeps telling me I can't have any type of elective procedures done yet because I am still considered at risk of a repeat stroke due to other health issues. In the mean time my visions getting worse in the right eye (my dominant eye) and night time driving is now a no no and it will be at least another 2 to 4 months before they may allow the elective cataract surgery. Good thing is I can still use my left eye well enough to see what I'm aiming at and still be happy with my results at the range on the rare time I get to go.

Good luck. At least you still have vision in the L eye. I've had cataracts taken out of both eyes. Had detached retinas too. Take care of your ticker so you will be able to spend more time with those grandchildren.

My dad is scheduled for Glaucoma surgery on the 17th. They are using some relatively new procedure placing a micro drain inside the eye to regulate the pressure. The Dr. said that she would attempt it but if it got too complicated she would back out and use a more traditional technique.

The wife's said laser surgery was an option in the future. Basically all they do is burn a drain hole in dummy talk.

I go yearly. I'm wearing daily contacts these days. Just had a new set of glasses and sunglasses made last month. I'm to the point that I "almost" need cheaters to read small stuff when I have my contacts in.

I go every year because I have higher pressures but no glaucoma. I have to monitor them to make sure they have not changed. I just went in Dec. I had to go to multi-focal lenses this year and no line bifocals. I am wearing bifocals as I type. So sad getting old.
