I may have caught the 9mm 1911 bug (again). This will not be a safe queen but a 1000 rd a month match pistol. I had a Colt Competition and sold it, might end up with another, don't know yet.

Which one would you look at? I don't have a budget in mind, but I want one where I don't worry if it gets scuffed up, so the really high end 1911's are out (for me anyway).

I have looked at every 1911 out there that I know of and never seem to see one outfitted just like I want. I hate to completely change a higher dollar pistol.

Here's what I'm looking for:

Novak cuts in the slide, not Bomar style rear slide cuts. (fiber front sight, low profile rear)
Blued or stainless.
Undercut trigger guard.
Must be interchangeable with other 1911 parts, which I think rules out Sigs.
Upswept beavertail
No rail

I can change the mainspring housing/ mag well easily enough, and the thumb safety.

Ideas welcome.

If you have the inch to shoot one I have a Taurus you can shoot this weekend. Don't worry I'm not trying to sell it,lol thought it might suffice until you figure out what you want. No strings attached Novak sites and 2 mags

Definitely give the Springfield loaded and RO lineups a look. A lot of nice shooting 1911s for the money.

STI only makes 2011s now I believe.

I updated the want list. Seems like several of the most interesting offerings from SA in 9mm have rails. Thus far I'd rather not have one, although my current grip has my support thumb flying like a flag rather than mashed onto the dust cover, so maybe I'm over thinking it.

After shooting Hackathorn's Wilson XC9 I have to say it is my favorite 1911 style 9mm and I will have one at some point! Cost too much but it's built right since they built it as a 9mm it doesn't suffer from the issues that commonly plague 9mm 1911's. Obviously it's designed around carry so that leaves other options if you're looking for a range piece.

This isn't the answer you're looking for, but just grab a Dan Wesson and shoot the snot out of it. They aren't as cheap as Springers and Colts, but you can likely find one darn close to how you want it. And you won't need to work on it to get it right. I haven't checked out their new models for 2018, but if I had to have 1 1911 without spending Wilson, Brown and Nighthawk kind of money a Valor would be the one. Check out the classified over on 1911 addicts and you might stumble on to something that doesn't hurt the wallet too much.

I looked hard at DW. They just don't have one configured like I want. It's funny that the lower end makers have them just like I want, but not the higher end ones.

The specs I want are identical to the Colt Competition 9mm, which I had, and I might just need to buy another. The problem is their ejector and Wilson mags don't play well together. I bent mine.

Well that just sucks for you. They make a fine 1911. Much beyond them the money gets crazy stupid.

Funny you mention. I chased that very pistol for months but nobody had one and I finally bought a Colt, that I sold. I couldn't find anything less than glowing reviews on that pistol.

Buy it, and then in a fit of buyers remorse sell it to me.

Has Hudson fixed the sights on the H9? I want to get my hands on one and shoot it.
They have a newer model H9 A or something, with new sights and a lightweight frame.

Have you checked out Fusion Firearms yet? I have heard good things about them lately. Their Freedom Series is priced right, and I think you can do some minor customizations. Maybe they can meet your specs.

I've got an STI Spartan V that shoots well, and I don't have to worry about knocking it around. It does have the Bomar sights, though. It's got the best trigger that I've ever owned on a gun.

So why did you sell the colt?
I abandoned shooting 1911's in matches a year ago or more ago because I was so miserable at operating them, then got bored just shooting Glocks and started shooting my two 1911's in .45 in CDP division again and finally "figured it out" (sorta). I typically sell guns that I don't shoot or that don't have some other "purpose" to me, so I had sold the 9mm last year before I took up 1911's again.

In the process the buyer discovered that Wilson mags had bent the ejector so I bought it back and then sold it to a friend "as is" at a greatly reduced price. He was able to get Colt to replace the bent ejector with a tuned ejector for 38 Super under warranty that remedied the issue. I am reluctant to purchase another Colt because unless the ejector is bent I don't know that they will replace it under warranty. So it would be a problem waiting to happen for which I'd have to mail off the pistol back to Colt.

I was looking at them last night before I saw your post and sent an email to Ed at Deep River in Sanford who is a dealer for them. They actually have one outfitted at Fusion's website like I want but no undercut trigger guard. I'm not heck bent on that, but I do prefer it where available.

Springfield, Kimber, STI or RIA... JMHO since you asked.
Have to get one with a rail for a Springer like I want in 9mm, STI does not make them anymore, RIA does make one exactly like I want (the Ultra) and will look at them again. There was not one Ultra to be found this time last year except the combo .22TCM/9mm. I've never owned a Kimber but have always shied away due to the "stories". I can't even remember what issues I used to read about them.

I have a Springfield Loaded and a Kimber Ultra Carry II. Both are very different, both are enjoyable to shoot. I use the Kimber in IDPA and as EDC, shoot the crap out of it, no issues.

I've only had experience with those but I'm sure others are also good.

You'll hear stories about anything.

The Kimber Stainless II does look interesting. I wonder if those slide cuts will fit other Novak style sights, not that I feel compelled to change them, yet.

Edit- nevermind on the recoil springs, I was comparing recoil springs for 9mm to 45. Duh.

Take a look at my Colt Combat Unit Rail gun. It was designed with help from Ken Hackathorn and Daryl Holland. I believe it has all your requirements, but it does have a rail.

Have you had a bad experience?

Yeah, it would stovepipe shells AND live rounds with no rhyme or reason. Tried different mags and ammo before getting my money back. Left a bad taste in my mouth for Remy, but then again I shouldn't be licking my pistols.

Thats odd, mine and the others I have shot have performed flawlessly. Sounds like you got a lemon

Ash...
I have a Ruger and an RIA that have absolutely run flawlessly...and Shari has a SA lightweight stainless loaded that has run flawlessly...

I have beat the bloody piss out of my Ruger, too....zero failures that were the gun’s fault...
