Who's got the 500?

I have only one 500 in 6.5”.

It’s long enough to be very accurate.

Recoil is mild with 350 grain bullets that I Reload. 500 gr is getting a little feisty but still manageable.

I have not tried a 700 grain.

It can be expensive to buy factory ammo so I reload for all of my Magnums.

All magnum ammo is stupid expensive /agreed.
What's the cost difference between a home-baked 350 gr versus a store bought round?

It is about 1/2 the cost of factory. $44 for 20 for factory.

I have had a 2 1/2 and a 4 incher. They are big fun to shoot. You have to reload to enjoy it. You can run a 300-500 grain bullet from 750 to Too Much fps. With the mass of the gun it is really pleasant shooting heavies slow. Bowling Pin Killer. Very little recoil from a 325 at 800 fps with the massive weight of the S&W 500.

I’d sure like to try one with some mild reloads.

The short one I shot was.....unpleasant!

I haven't shot mine in a while, but when I bought mine the seller included 100 rounds of 300gr ammunition that is haven't finished yet.

I think it's a ton of fun to chunk bullets the size of ashtrays at pretty slow speeds, but I wouldn't want to try pushing big bullets really fast out of anything, even that beast.

That gun weighs a whole bunch. Even the little ones aren't exactly light. They're manageable if you're not scared of them.

The costs to reload can vary widely depending on bullet choice. As low as about 75 cents per round I would guess. They don't require a huge powder load if you're not trying to push them stupid fast.

I had the exact one in the photo you posted. Sold it when I got out of guns about 10 years ago. Back into them now and will likely buy another on, same size, in the coming months. Loved shooting it. Handloading is def the way to go it you want to shoot it much. I also cast my own bullets for it, 440gr. I was loading my own rounds with my own bullets for around $0.12 per round. Beats $3 per round for factory.
