Why you pay the Glock tax

I recall my friend bringing his NEW Gen 4 Glock to the range when they just came out.

I offered to give him lube for it (Slip 2000 EWL) with a Boresnake to swab out the new barrel

But he wanted to see if it was reliable out of the box. Literally.

Ancedotal, but we and one other person shot 400rds of diff brand FMJ and 2x diff weight HST boxes of 9mm (124 & 147, don't remember if any were +P)

Not even his granddaughter at 14 was able to make it not cycle properly

I had my G3 there and it was perfect as well. An older Kimber 1911 had one stovepipe with the granddaughter, and a few .22LR hangups with lead nosed no jacket ammo

It impressed me. My Kahrs and Taurus guns didn't cycle well until after 200-300 rounds AFTER a thorough cleaning and generous lube.

Go Glock for having loose tolerances! (J/K!)

My G5 Glock is really good and notably more accurate than G3 & G4 btw. Same boring reliability.

@BatteryOaksBilly and I took a SCCY right out of the box and straight to the range. No cleaning, no lube, just loaded the magazines and started shooting. Not the first malfunction that day and the gun continued to run over 1,000 trouble free rounds before Billy traded it.

So they cost $50? I thought in the s&w lawsuit a decade or two ago it came out the cost was like $23?

I’d have taken all the money saved and bought lotto tickets!

I took @RetiredUSNChief with me to buy a gun once at a store with a range. They give you a punch card for 10 free range trips if you buy a handgun.

I bought a 17 L, took it straight to the range, bought 4 or 5 boxes of ammunition and shot them all. Not the first hesitation.

I guess it’s the same reason people pay the Toyota tax.
My neighbor recommended Toyota when I asked his advice on a new vehicle. He is a car fanatic.

He is selling his Mercedes 3 row SUV for a Lexus GX soon because the Mercedes is a PITA lemon.

He told me he should have followed his own advice, but culturally, it's expected that he "shows off to one up friends".

I asked him why it matters. He told me "Social status"

I asked if it was worth it. He said no.

Why he trusted me going to G19 over his expensive 1911. He found out he shot the Glock better than the 1911 at the range the first time he used it.

We didn't tell him it was likely due to 9mm, and not platform.

That is a must!

I've kinda wondered about this at times. Now, I"ll admit I'm a Glock fanboi all day, and all mine have aftermarket sights, simply because of my eyesight, but I never felt like I had to change sights. Before my eyes started getting worse, I would shoot stock sights just as good as any aftermarket sights. I also have always thought that night sights were kinda gimmicky, but all the aftermarket sights I like, have a front tritium in them. Now, if you're racking off of holsters/belts, tailgates, etc, then yeah, the plastic sights will break, but if you're not, then I believe you can shoot one just as good with factory sights. My buddy Derrick has been shooting with me for around 10 years now, and he still shoots his Gen 3 17 with factory sights, and very, very well. Really, I guess it's more "preference" than "must" no?

You can make a Glock for $50?!?! They are just gouging you because of the name!
Interesting story on how making (reliable) pistols is not as easy as you think.

Local gun shop had one of these for about $200. I didn't know anything about them at the time, but the 20lb trigger was enough to tell me it was a bad idea.
