Without Remorse

Hmmm...
Michale B Jordan is indeed a badass and very talented...
I am just wondering how much they strayed from the source material?

I am a HUGE fan of the Ryanverse book series, and Clark (Kelly) is a major part of that.

But already I can see a lot of changes.
Modern vs Vietnam era
Terrorists vs the mob
Wife killed vs girlfriend
The way he dispatches bad guys- in the original he was the invisible man, the only clue was that there were no clues...
Also, Clark is supposed to be gigantic, like 6’6”

Anyway
I will give it an honest shot until they PC it to death like they did with Jack Ryan... Curious if they tie it together, being that Admiral Greer was mentor and friends with both, and that Clark was the GSD for Greet and bodyguard for Ryan for several novels....

I'll watch it for pure entertainment value, but it does not at all do the book justice. The book was an awesome read. Hollywood is lazy and can't do anything actual justice.

The best of Clancy's novels had Clark and Chavez applying violence to bad people.
Yep
There’s another one, Ding, that they never did justice to...
They kind of portrayed him ok in Vlear and Present Danger, but not great..
I mean the whole “I approached the general by being a sneaky bastard” scene was cool, but in that novel Ding and Clark get into some heavy wet work.

Also in the original novel, Without Remorse, Jack Ryan is in college, and only in the book for a line or two. His father is a homicide detective and investigating the Invisible Man killings...
It also intricately laid out how patient Clark was, how he would wait for days...
Also how Greer figures out he is the killer, simply because all the killings stop only when he tasked Clark with going on an off the Rez mission alone in Vietnam...

I’ll watch it and appreciate the fact they are making the movie but I have the same reservations. I’d rather them do a different character and storyline for Michael B Jordan.

I think Liev Schreiber did a good job playing John Clark in The Sum Of All Fears and he might have done a good job with Without Remorse.

Just stick to the original plot, for crying out loud!

Hollywood has destroyed every Clancy novel made to film. There are far too many leftist loonies involved in producing a movie these days from the top down. Screenwriters, directors, producers and all the way down to screen talent(?). All have too much influence to do a film that follows original intent.

Exactly.
Case in point- Sum of All Fears was about a terrorist strike by muslim separatists. In the movie of course hollyweird made it white supremacists.
The polt didn't really work, and they made it dumb, but Morgan freeman as Grier, and Liev Schreiber as Clark were pretty good

I dont watch any movie made from any book Ive actually read.
This one will be no different.

Oh, I have to watch if I've read the book. Admittedly, it's usually a disappointment.

I hated the idea of Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher but he pulled it off pretty well.

Never read any Reacher, Bourne, or Bond books so those movies ranged from decent to good for me.
I read a lot of Stephen King growing up and learned my lesson from those movie adaptations in the past.
No more lol.

You should definitely check out Reacher, I never really got into Bourne and only read Casino Royale which was a different universe from the movies.
But Reacher... You gotta'

Yeah, usually they suck, but The Running Man was way better than the book by King....
ESPECIALLY the post credits surprise

Has the required equity fantasy crap.
Female SEAL. Never gonna happen unless a man "identifies" as a woman.
Beyond that it is entertaining.

I have so much to say about how bad this movie sucked. Let me summarize it by saying they took a great book and made a horrible movie out of it.
Without Remorse was such a good book. I'm going to watch the movie without the expectation that it does anything other than plagiarize the name.

Yeah
It is def my favorite of the Ryanverse series, and I have read them all… Even the ghostwritten ones made after Tom passed on…

Haven't read the book, but just finished watching the movie and I was very disappointed. There was no place to give it a thumbs down.

When you think there is a rock bottom, when you think that things can't suck anymore, this movie will obliterate those lack of expectations.

I'm halfway through the movie, probably 2/3, and I will finish it because my OCD won't let me not finish it. But my gosh, I hope Clancy is turning over in his grave. I need to wash my eyes with bleach and get kicked in the balls just to get the pain of this movie out of my mind.

Color me VERY disappointed. They couldn’t find anybody capable of actual acting?

@fishgutzy , I'm coming around to a possibility of a chick in the teams; see my post re: Chief Shannon Kent.

@Miss Lily Hunt for Red October was a solid translation from the book to the movie. And I would have to give Clear and Present Danger a "C".

@Spartan01 , What bothered me about the Chavez storyline is that the CIA already has people to do those kinds of things, and they already have access to teams who work together to do those kinds of things. I mean, the entire 7th Special forces group is made of Spanish speaking people, 3/4 of whom are already Latino. That said, it was an enjoyable storyline.

I only watched the first bit, up until about the airport attack.
I was gonna say "There are women seals in command positions at high levels that have access to DoD and such?"
and yeah, his acting was pretty garbage in... pretty much everything i've seen him in.

But my gosh, I hope Clancy is turning over in his grave.
There was an ugly split between Tom and his movies business-wise. I believe it still exists today in his estate and family members. Basically the Hunt for Red October was the best Clancy/Jack Ryan book and movie ever made and he wanted to keep up the pace with it, keeping Alec Baldwin as Jack Ryan. There was pushback from the studio on Patriot Games and they insisted Harrison Ford, Clancy all but disowned it. Talk about betrayal of the book...Patriot Games sucks compared to the book. People talk about Clear and Present Danger as being good too...I disagree. Another one that the studio killed.

Clancy books are very hard to adapt to the screen if not for any other reason than their length and depth of detail. Without that detail, the movie/show severely lacks.

Anyway...Amazon's Jack Ryan series is at least entertaining, but it is no Clancy novel. It's sad to hear the negative reviews about this one as the trailer looks good.

In the movie adaptation of Sum of All Fears , H-wood changed the terrorists from believable Islamic extremists to unbelievable white supremacists.

Yeah
The piss on his memory and legacy…
Patriot Games did suck compared to the book, but Sean Bean was good, and you cannot forget a pre Pulp Fiction Samuel L as CMDR Robby Jackson…

Also
This new Jack Ryan show…
Meh…
I liked Jim from The Office, especially after 13 Hours, and The Bunk from the Wire as Jim Greer was cool, until they made him a devout muslim just to appease the sjw crowd.

I was so excited by the character “Garth”
Pretty sure he was gonna turn out to be Clark, but nope they done went and that up too

There was supposed to be a movie or show centered around Clark alone.

Just finished.

Wow, I got to ask the question - IS Michael B Jordan the best action star of the 21st century? My answer...no, not even close.
This was a snoozer. Like, I literally struggled to stay awake while watching it this afternoon.

Ive never read a Clancy book, no desire. I dont care about what the characters are/were like in the book etc etc etc...I just want to be entertained. I wasnt.
Would not recommend.

This is exactly what I was about to ask.

I haven't read the book, but if the movie was entertaining for those of us ignorant of the book - I could live with that.

Reckon I'll do a hard pass on this one.

Oh, but for the record, I LOVED Michael B. Jordon as Killmonger in Black Panther.

That movie was so poorly done I barely made it through the first 30 minutes. Just horrible.
