A woman was arrested at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport after she refused to move luggage up to bins on a United Airlines flight Tuesday, reported Brian Michael of ABC-affiliate KOMO TV Tuesday. The fight resulted in police escorting of all passengers off the plane for safety reasons.

The woman and her mother, in her 80s, had a bag under the seat in front of them that also spread onto the row. The flight crew wanted them to move it to the overhead bin, but the passengers did not want to, said Sea-Tac spokesperson Brian Deroy. Police cleared the plane after an argument resulting from a language barrier began between the two women and flight employees.

Let's see, what are all the fail points:
1) We have an entire industry that degrades and dehumanizes their customers. No wonder people act out
2) The issue resulted or at least was escalated over a language barrier.
3) The use of police violence is the answer to the airline's woes, once again.

Obviously having a bag spill out into the row is a safety issue. The fact that the article says "language barrier" suggests that the passengers didn't understand this. Couple that with the humiliating, degrading, uncomfortable experience flying has become and it's no wonder they lashed out.

Yeah but now she went through all that and still didn't get anywhere. I don't see a path to a win here - you've already subjected yourself to the King's inspectors but moving your bag is just too damned much to tolerate?

Wait again you want to throw out personal responsibility. In life there are rules if they followed the rules no issue. Secondly just because they called the police does not mean there was police violence.

Quite the contrary. The fact that this allegedly occurred because of a "communication barrier" which I am guessing means didn't speak English, the rmployee could have taken responsibility, as you put it by trying to find a way to more effectively communicate. I don't see this as unreasonable in a multi-national industry like airlines. Instead it looks likes another case of bow down or face the govt enforcers.

Remember, this airline has EARNED its reputation.

Funny how you automatically jump to the conclusion the people that were given the authority is in the wrong.

I am not an airline defender by any stretch - best day of my life was when I announced my retirement and no longer have to get on a plane 3 out of 4 weeks/month. However: "the woman’s daughter allegedly threw something and was arrested" - communication can be an issue but throwing something is a no no in any language

The simple answer is yes! Here's what I do and have done. I am one of the strange people that gets to the airport really early. At least 2 hours early. I go check my big bag. I wait in line and take sometime for this., or do curb side and tip the guy. Then I go eat, read and relax at my gate. I carry on either a backpack or rolling computer bag. I put that bag in the overhead every damn time. I have had flight attendants ask me to remove it so some lazy SOB with their entire wardrobe in a bag can squeeze their bag in the overhead. I always so no thank you. Very politely mind you. I paid for my 3 inches of leg room and I want it. I also did try to bring a huge bag on the plane. I took the time and effort to check a bag. It is not my job to make life easier for the lazy people. Screw them. They can easily tag the bag and put it in the planes checked bags underneath.

I completely misread the title. I thought it said "Arrested for refusing to put bag over head". Thought this was basement material. Carry on.

Since the last incident with the settled lawsuit, they have become a target. I bet they get tested daily by people looking to get paid.

It's simple, if your bag doesn't fit under your seat, you don't put it under the seat. You can't have bags hanging out into the aisle on a flight. It's a safety hazard and inconsiderate as hell to boot. The rules are pretty much the same worldwide in my experience. Language barrier is a cop-out.

Only people I feel bad for are the other passengers these two jackasses imposed their stupidity on.

Fixed it. Everytime I see the heading I think the same thing. And that picture of Helen Thomas in Chad's Basement pops in my head! UGH!!!!
