My brother in law has had this AK since college, shot it a lot back in the day before we both had kids and other life responsibilities. Had mentioned in passing that he’d like to eventually upgrade it but just never seems to have the time or extra funds to get what he wanted.

Saw a smoking deal on here last year for the Magpul Zhukov stock, pistol grip, and handguard so we bougt it for him for whatever the closest holiday/birthday was. Gave it to him and told him if he needed help with the install to let me know since he wanted to try to do it himself.

Was over at their house the other weekend and we were talking and he mentioned he still hadn’t installed any of it. Mainly cause he wasn’t sure he has the right tools or knowledge to do it. Offered to install the stuff for him if he wanted so he took me up on it.

Originally it was wearing Tapco plastic furniture, which sucked. I never shot this rifle but from just handling it I would have switched it out years ago had it been mine.

While taking it apart, gave it a deep cleaning since it hadn’t ever been done since he had it and he had bought it used. Had a mixture of rust, cosmoline, grim almost everywhere. The bolt face needed to be soaked cause it had an accumulation of cosmoline in it, I told him cause I was on a time crunch but he said he never had any issues with firing. I’ll bet he never cleans it, but I told him so my conscience is clear.

Installed all the Magpul swag, hooked him up with a vickers tactical sling I had laying around.

*fun fact, he had the receipt for when he bought it in the box still, a whopping $400. How times have changed.

He was appreciative, and wants to eventually go shooting one day. Need to work on getting him some extra mags, cause he’s only got x2 metal ones that came with the rifle back when he bought it circa 2008. Thankfully he had enough for sight to at least stock up on 7.62 back in the day but not mags.

**fun fact #2, don’t take pictures of AKs in the kitchen cause then your wife will ask you what the crap you’re doing.

I fondly remember the days of 400$ AKs!

I remember seeing them at gun shows and kept thinking, I’ll buy one next time

Bought a wasr before I left WA, paid $440 iirc cause it came with mags and ammo. Rocked that for awhile and then traded it for a M16A1 variant. Should have kept it, the new AK prices are crazy
