Would someone explain the reason behind Pay Pal. I've tried to buy from more than one person and they say pay pal only. Not accepting checks or cash.... I don't understand. Is it a millennial thing or just so that know one knows who they are or where they live . Is it paranoia. Afraid of big brother watching them. I'm not trying to be a smart a$$ ,just an old fart that is not tech savvy. Guess I'm just old school and like an old dog who does not want to put my account info out there.Someone PLEASE explain.

Once it's set up for you it's a way to send or receive money instantly. No muss, no fuss, aside from their antigun proclivities.

I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone who wouldn't accept cash FTF, but I don't want anyone's checks unless I know them personally, and then I still have to take it to the bank. Paypal is money in the bank, literally.

What he said. Plus you can add your bank account and transfer money between Paypal and your bank whenever you want. I think it takes 1 day. It is convenient. But I undersaynd avoiding it. If you don't buy and sell often you could probably live without it. I'll take your cash! And I'll give you a nice Colt in retrun. :D

Becauuse it’s the easiest way to transfer imaginary money from your account to someone else’s. Its a wire transfer without alll the fuss at the bank.

Checks and Money orders are prone to fraud, and cash in person leaves a buyer open to walk or barter. Paypal gets you yo money first.

That said, I friggin’ hate paypal.

just need to watch the fees.... attempt to circumvent with a 'gift' designation takes away some 'protection' and i believe if they get a sniff of gun related .. maybe some account closures????

I’ve never had an issue with PayPal as far as security goes. But it’s far easier to tap a few buttons and boom, something is paid for. I like it because when I buy something it means I really want it, as soon as possible. So if I have to mail a check, or go get a cashiers check/money order, that takes extra time. With PayPal the seller gets his money immediately and I get what I want faster.

I hate their policies and wish there were viable alternatives but it's hard to beat being able to pay instantly, with fraud protection using almost any device (computer, phone , tablet, etc) .

The fees turn me away, but years ago i did a lot of buying and selling on ebay, paypal was convient for this. Paypal also had security issues back then....now, i dunno.

My wife uses it daily. She sells and buys dolls all over the world and has never had a problem with it. Money is instantly there when someone pays. She will transfer funds to local bank in the morning and it is normally available that afternoon. When I want something I just use her account. I do have to xfer money to her though. Can't have everything I guess. :)

If I want to buy what you are selling and I send you a check, take it to the bank and cash it. DontD deposit it. Wait 2 or 3 days to make sure that it does not bounce. Then mail me what I bought. Or I could get a cashier's check from bank.. Hard to commit fraud Doing that

Google "cashier's check fraud"....

fast, easy
If you work gun shows or other events they'll send you a card swiper and you can run credit cards through their PayPal Here app. Makes things a lot more convenient.

Im not a huge fan of checks, especially from folks I dont know, it's more time waiting on it to arrive and then I have to go to the bank to cash THEN I can ship.
PP is instant...or within a few minutes at max.

I'll pay the 3%, whatever.
OR you can do Friends and Family and it not charge you if you use money already in your account.

I like it.

This exactly. We all hate PayPal’s anti-gun policies but the fact remains it is the easiest way to transfer funds.

I hate having to go to the bank to deposit checks or MO; I literally do it like 5 times a year.

PayPal also aids me take advantage of impulse buys that I would have talked myself out of if I had to write a check or something.

I used to detest PP until I set up an account and began offering it as a payment method. It makes it much easier on the buyer and is almost instant to let you know the money has arrived.
Prime example, I only sell one thing on the gun forums, an adjustable rotor for The Little Dandy Powder Measure. Guy emails or calls me before noon, sends PP and I know the money is there so I ship when I go out for lunch. Basically same day shipping, ain't life grand??

Speaking of which, was there any follow up on that ATF call about those Riots using your powder measure for unintended purposes? Just curious and this reminded me of it. Maybe that’s (PP) part of how they traced it to you?

Not another word, and honestly I'm glad. The ATF guy didn't say "specifically" how it actually came back to me. I knew there was the chance of it being to measure "other things" that were of similar consistency as gun powder but this was the first time I'd actually heard of it.

Pay Pal was going to bring 400 jobs to Charlotte. But then the State of NC passed a bill that said no city in the state can force private employers to allow men in the women's rooms. Pay Pal was free to do anything they wanted with their own bathrooms, but that wasn't good enough. Pay Pal said that if the State didn't force themselves upon every private employer and all 11 million of us in the entire state, they would go elsewhere. State said, "bye!" and Freedom won that round. Good riddance.

I have a Pay Pal account, and use it a few times a year, but I try to avoid it.

PayPal is quick and easy, and most folks I've met use it. It allows anyone to accept online electronic payments, without the need for credit/debit card software.

Sure, there are fees, but the fees are usually small, and paypal is upfront about them. When you agree to their TOS, you agree to the fees, so attempting to circumvent this by mandating that all payments must be sent as a "gift" is actually fraud.

Sending payment as a gift also turns off the buyer protection they offer. Someone would be a fool to send a 'gift' to pay for goods or services.

Fees?
Any payment service charges fees.
Many, if not most, vendors on Gunbroker charge a 3% fee for using a credit card.
Why?
The CC companies charge the vendors.
Pay Pal does the same thing but if you pay using your balance, there is no fee.
If your bank account is hooked to your account, and you use that, no fee.
If your account is hooked to a credit card, Pay Pal charges a fee because the CC company charges Pay Pal for the transaction.

I've been using Pay Pal for almost 20 years and find it safe, secure and easy for both the seller and buyer.
It's basically an online bank. You can transfer money from your bank account to Pay Pal to keep a balance.
It's taken at a lot of online sites.
Easy.
Fast.
Secure.

For those of us with a 'business' account with them, they offer a Debit card. Someone sends you money, you got money to spend, online, in-store and otherwise.

Up until recently, several sporting good's stores would even take paypal payments at the register (no fee involved) and ahem...I bought ALOT of ammo and gun related items without a sniff of account issues.

My tabletop FFL takes it, and that's all I really care about. I can sell things, and buy things with it. I don't have to agree with their politics because ALL financial institutions are basically 'anti-gun' in their basic nature.
