Maybe a year ago, or three, @BigWaylon wrapped the lever on a suppressor host and having gotten it right on the first try generously gave me the second piece of leather that had come in the kit. @Gunbelt provided some sinew for me to lace it. Well after aging an appropriate time on the work bench I decided to match it up with a Rossi 92 in 38/357.

After measuring twice I may have cut it shorter than I could have, but I got it on and laced up and thought it looked pretty good for a first effort. Here it is, check that baseball stitching!

Having never used a leather wrap before I decided to give it a try. I took it out of the vise, flipped it over and cycled it once and then this happened.

Obviously it didn’t do anything for my fingers.

Pretty sure I can reuse the leather, I‘ll find out in the morning. Oh, and no I can’t slide it, yes I tried.

Mine is actually wrapped all the way around, and seems to work just fine.

Pretty sure that's how I would have done it.

Unfortunately

So then decided to do an 1895. The back of the finger lever is square, which I failed to consider, but that wasn’t my first problem.

At least I noticed before tying it off so I could undo a few stitches and regroup. Didn’t get a pic, but tied then end knot too tight and had a very hard time pulling the loop through, and in the process pulled the sinew through the leather, dang it.

Cut it all off, shortened the leather and put it back on and now it’s really short. It’s just practice, probably putting a Ranger Point Precision mid-sized lever on this in a few weeks. Will say that they do feel good, much bigger difference than I’d expected.

Ok I'll ask; what's the purpose of doing this? Would doing so not trap moisture and create rust underneath?
Yes, but it feels good.

Eventually I plan to wrap mostly stainless replacement levers, sticking the originals in VCI bags in a drawer. Wouldn’t do it to anything highly collectible.

I probably would have done the same thing. I have one waiting for me to put on my 94 30-30.

No reason really. But it does match the no drill sling
