YHM Suppressor Warranty Changed

There’s two sides to every story.

I could see them changing their policy given how popular their cans have gotten in recent years. Maybe they’re seeing a spike in idiots, compounded by high materials cost, and this is their response? I hope that’s not the case but who knows.

I love a great warranty but I understand some denials. If an individual made a dummy mistake, it's on the dummy. If the product didn't live up to reasonable expectations, that should be on the manufacturer. I love my Leupold warranty and some others I have......but I use one of their products for 20+ years without problems and it fails....I got my money out of it and probably wouldn't have a problem buying another.

I guessed there was a huge markup in silencers since so many tend to stand behind their product, but as time goes on I could see that changing. As long as they stand behind their product within reason, I understand.

If I had bought a suppressor under the no questions asked warranty and that was a significant part of my decision to purchase I'd be livid right now.

As it is, my previous distaste for YHM has now become outright avoidance. Willingness to go back on the promises made to people who you already took money from based on those promises shows a definite character to how you do business.

Reminds me of the Cabela’s legendary guarantee. Used to shop there all the time before bass pro bought them and did away with the warranty. Now I have a pair of Cabela’s binos with a broken diopter and no way to get them repaired - really frustrating. I hope YHM continues to take care of the customers who bought cans under the premise of a lifetime guarantee.

I think this is inevitable for all suppressor manufacturers
as more and more idiots get into the NFA game, it will be expensive for them to eat the costs of a NQA warranty. They'd have to drive up their cost and MSRP.
That being said, i am going to remain hopeful that they honor pretty much everything except really really stupid stuff.
I bought one of their cans that was meant for LEO and it picked up some surface rust after a day in the rain. It was not covered by any sort of warranty because that run of cans was built for police or some special purpose and had a different finish than their normal stuff.
They told me to send it in on my own dime. I got a new cerakote finish for free.

I’m with you, if you bought one under their warranty, they should honor that warranty. If they want to change the warranty, then change it and give a date that the change happens. It’s not fair if that’s part of why you bought their product in the first place.

Zero respect for someone walking back a written commitment as they apparently just did.

It sucks that there's no legal remedy for those who bought under the initial agreement that YHM just cheesed out of.

This is what is on their website right now:

WARRANTY

YHM products are warranted for life to be free from defects in material and workmanship. Any such defect for which YHM is given written notice by a customer will be remedied by YHM. All returns must include a copy of the RMA form. YHM does not warranty against products that are deemed to be damaged through unreasonable use, corrosion, neglect, or ordinary wear and tear. YHM products are sold “as is” and have no implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. YHM reserves the right to make changes at any time and without notice to policies, prices specifications or designs, to add or remove accessory materials, and to add or delete items without incurring any obligation.

All products being returned to YHM require a pre-approved Return Material Authorization (RMA) number. Please contact the Sales Office for a RMA number. Shipments without a RMA number or without a RMA Form may be refused. RMA numbers are valid for a period of 30 days. After that, you must call for a new RMA number. Please be as specific as possible with the reason for the return, otherwise we may not be able to troubleshoot the exact problem. If there is no reason for the return or the description is vague, only basic tests will be performed and if no issue can be found it will be returned back to the customer in the same condition it was received.

And this is what’s printed in the manual from a can I bought in Sep ‘13:

I’m not seeing anything that’s getting me bent out of shape.

If I was going to be mad about something, it would be the fact the warranty back then said it was null and void if a licensed gunsmith wasn’t the one they installed the muzzle device…as I know I’ve always done my own.

There's two things that concern me in this:

* Whether their warranty was smart, they changed it after the fact, affecting existing customers who purchased under the previous agreement

and

* you have to disassemble the rifle and send both parts in to get evaluated if it's a warranty issue or not?

Nope.
