YHM Turbo K-RB First Impressions

Sold one of these at work last week to my buddy @Suwand28 , and I brought it home to let him have a conjugal visit with it. Shot it side by side with my Turbo K, both cans on 10.5 AR's.

To the shooter and to the spectators (6 or so people) there was no noticable difference in sound.

However, there was a HUGE difference in how much gas to the face you got. The K-RB was SIGNIFICANTLY better.

I only put ~10 rounds through it, and he put maybe 100 or so rounds through it. Didn't run the can hard and didn't shoot it at dark to see how the flash was...so just a first impression of the can.

I’ve shot the turbo and I’ve been very close to ordering one!

Which turbo have you shot?

I'm guessing not a Turbo K-RB (RB being key, and what I'm posting about). It's only been out a couple months, and I doubt anyone has had one approved yet.

Regardless, the Turbo T3 and Turbo K-RB are a big improvement in gas to face over the previous generations.
 
It was the T3 (maybe T2) but I’m looking/wanting the new RB that’s why I said thanks for the real world review.

I think it was blown way out of proportion. Nothing about it would cause me to choose something other than YHM based on warranty alone.

Of course I don't mind. Is your Turbo K not setup with a YHM muzzle device?

Nope. I run Dead Air Xeno mounts on everything. I suppose I could swap my can adapter to your can to try it out though...

Once it starts getting dark around 8 or earlier, I'll try it out. Hate to shoot at 9pm and piss off the neighbor I sort of like. 🤣

I'm looking at the Fat Cat now.
Tuck the first part under the handguard. It comes with their new mount and I like that mount.

If YHM's new SRX mount existed when I got into Xeno, I'd have went that route over Xeno. Xeno is functionally, slightly better (imo)...but the SRX stuff isn't perpetually out of stock for weeks or months at a time.

Yep I have both!
The xeno I found in stock at SS for the most part but hard to find. If I recall Midway and JoeBobs have them from time to time also.

I wish they were all left hand threaded.

If the SRX was LH, every future can would get that setup.

I can find the Xeno stuff. But two or three times now I had to buy from places that wanted full MSRP, and none of our vendors had it (including sishop). Oh well...
 
Has anyone that ordered one from Primary got a shipping notification? It showed in stock when I ordered and has been stuck on Pending Fulfillment for a couple weeks.
 
These come with a muzzle device, your pick of flash hider or muzzle break. Mine will be going on a 10.5”. I figured the muzzle brake could act as a sacrificial baffle so that’s what I ordered. I’ll probably never shoot the 10.5” unsuppressed after getting the Turbo K so I don’t care about blast when the can is removed.

I’d also likely be fine with direct thread, it would be a little more compact. Is it a bad idea to do direct thread on such a short barrel? Will the lifespan be shortened?
