Sh:t has hit the fan, you have to grab a rifle and move. Out of your house, on the go.... you’ve got an Arsenal to select from, what’s the ole go to?

Ar15, 10, ak? Maybe you’re strong and want a m1 or m1a?

Just playing the idea over in my head, what would I choose to pack up and take off with it the situation ever arose. I don’t keep a lot of firearms, but I keep what I trust, what I’d take with me. The main reason I carry and shoot glock. I like other pistols better, but if I had to grab one, that’s what it’d be. That’s why I run it.

Back on topic,
Rifles... go!

So in this crazy scenario, if I have to think about a rifle I have + AMMO that I have, or will have access to, I might grab my SP5k and (since its all gone to hell and the ATF doesnt exist any longer in this wild scenario) put the stock on it that the stamp hasnt come back for yet.
-9mm - i have a lot more of it than I do 223/556, it's smaller (physically), so I can carry more of it, and it'd be complimentary to my pistol(s).
-It'll take up less space and is lighter than my AR

Disadvantages - I dont have a can for it, I do the AR, which would keep things much more quiet in the event i had to use the weapon. Also, I dont have as many mags for it as I do my other rifles

I've already figured this one out. It's my PSA/anderson AR in 556. Why such a 'low end' rifle?

1. known reliability, 3500+ rounds with the weak parts already replaced
2. known mags, mags I have with it feed, drop free when you want them to, fit my carriers, etc.
3. known mags are loaded, all the ammo I'll bring is already in handy 29 round carrying boxes
4. known optics / zero, I use it frequently so I know the red dot batteries are good and it's zero is verified
5. setup with the sling, light, etc I always use, so no surprises that things don't work, aren't adjusted for me, etc
6. light enough to carry, not so light to be delicate
7. have spare batteries for the dot and white light, no looking for CR123s at the gas station
8. it's got green furniture, I'll look way more stylish than everyone else with their boring black rifles.

Basically it works, I know how to work it and it's what I practice with. That makes up for any disadvantages of 556 vs any other caliber in my mind.

Colt 6601 HBAR Sporter and all the ammo my family can carry!

At this point probably my Sub2k because I have a lot of 9mm ammo on hand and it folds into compact storage.

If it happens after I have a shipment of 5.56, then I grab the AR.

I'm grabbing my official Red Ryder, carbine action, 200-shot, range model air rifle, with a compass in the stock.

You won’t get out the door and you’ll be missing an eye

Hi-Point 955 because apparently you can carry extra ammo in the barrel.
I'd grab my Hi Point 995. Short, lightweight, same ammo as my handgun, works reliably, hits whatever you aim it at.

I'd do kinda the same. Either my AR9 rifle or pistol. Same ammo and mags as my pistol.

300 Blackout Bolt Rifle, with can...….. I've gotten pretty decent with that rifle over the last few months.

For the exercise, it all depends on which continent I'm on. Back in NC one of my ARs that I built, shot the snot out of and have hunted with. Here in Astan my 10.3" select fire M4 that I also built and shot the snot out of. Go with what your confident and trained in and have on hand. I've been shooting the AR since I left high school and joined the Army in 83'. Been around the world with that system 36 yrs.

I’d like to say I’d carry my .270 cause I have a ton of handloaded ammo for it and it wears a night vision scope.
But it’d probably be a 22.

I’m torn ... on 1 hand my favorite AR and suppressor (but its bark still announces my presence) and be fighting ready ... if fighting is actually the smart choice. On the other my CZ455 and suppressor (pretty damn quiet with standard velocity and I can carry a bunch of ammo) and be stealthy hunting or even sniping ... I’d bet there’d be weapons of opportunity along the way if you just fly under the radar.

WTH am I running from? If it’s Zombies I’m taking my Ruger American .22 since it’s pretty accurate, makes a lot less noise and can carry a ton of ammo.
If it’s humans I’m running from I’m taking my Sig M400 with Eotech plus magnifyer and ammo. If I’m in car I can carry lots of ammo but on foot I won’t be able to be in to many sustained firefights before ammo is exhausted.

Any time this comes up I always come back to 2 things: sound and surroundings. The majority of us have a rifle that has a magazine capacity in the 20-35 round range and multiple mags. So if we assume that round count is not the biggest concern (aka carrying as much ammo as possible or having the rifle with the highest capacity magazine), then to me it is all about sound.

If sh!t hits the fan, those of you with 5.56 without a good can are screwing you hearing with every shot. And in a scenario where you have to be vigilent and alert to your surroundings, hearing is likely your second most important sense and source of data. Therefore, I believe you pick up the quietest platform with which you are comfortable.

When the time comes to pull the trigger, 6-7 shots from a suppressed .300 or 9MM is going to be safer than 1 shot from 5.56 unsuppressed or maybe even suppressed. Both for your hearing, alerting others around you, your family's hearing, etc.

Having said all that, when my first batch if cans clear, I'll be carrying the 8" .300 AR with can, the wife will have the Scorpion with can, and the 10/22 takedown... with can, is going to be slung on my back or the 4 year olds back!
