You will be missed my most loyal friend.

Hurts my heart. Our family has been there a couple of times. Thankful that he was loved and treated well for many years. No pet could receive anything greater. Take solace in that fact. Blessings on you and yours.

Only time will heal, so long as he lives in your memory he lives on. So sorry for your loss

So terribly sorry for your loss.
I know it hurts

I've had hundreds of hunting dogs over the years, but only a handful of those long time faithful pals. Here is a poem that I love to read whenever I outlast one of those friends......and the answer to the poem is always "Because He (or She) was worth it!

The Power of the Dog
Rudyard Kipling, 1865 - 1936
There is sorrow enough in the natural way
From men and women to fill our day;
And when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and Sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.

Buy a pup and your money will buy
Love unflinching that cannot lie—
Perfect passion and worship fed
By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head.
Nevertheless it is hardly fair
To risk your heart for a dog to tear.

When the fourteen years which Nature permits
Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits,
And the vet’s unspoken prescription runs
To lethal chambers or loaded guns,
Then you will find—it’s your own affair—
But … you’ve given your heart to a dog to tear.

When the body that lived at your single will,
With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!).
When the spirit that answered your every mood
Is gone—wherever it goes—for good,
You will discover how much you care,
And will give your heart to a dog to tear.

We’ve sorrow enough in the natural way,
When it comes to burying Christian clay.
Our loves are not given, but only lent,
At compound interest of cent per cent.
Though it is not always the case, I believe,
That the longer we’ve kept ’em, the more do we grieve:
For, when debts are payable, right or wrong,
A short-time loan is as bad as a long—
So why in—Heaven (before we are there)
Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?

Feel your pain. Had to put my 7.5 year old GS down 4 weeks ago. Cried like a baby.....again. Just rescued a 5 month old female GS pup that had been mistreated. She's really messed up.

Get another puppy soon as you can. Plenty of good dogs out there for rescue.

Very sorry for your loss Steve. Losing a beloved pet is very hard. I remember when you introduced me to him at Clark's BBQ. Again very sorry for your loss.

Thank you all for the kind thoughts.
He was ONE OF THE SPECIAL ONES.
He was a 95% insider also. So it makes it even harder.
I have not been this sad in a very long time.
Thanks
Basil

Sorry for your loss. I know it hurts. I think more of any dog than I do about most people

This.
I too am sorry for your loss. I have lost 2 before and have another that is 11 or 12 so that ride will come again in my life all too soon. Just remember the good times and another dog will come when your heart is ready to be stolen away and hidden under the couch!

Nothing I can say will make losing your friend any easier but my heart hurts for you and am saddened by your loss.
