Our Battery Oaks is everything to me. Home, Range, Southern roots, Heritage , security and gathering spot for friends.

Some places are sinks.
Some places are neutral.
Some places are sources.
Battery Oaks is a source.

Grits. The most ideal breakfast food there is. I love em. Butter and salt is all you need. You can throw in cheese and your favorite meat and you have a meal.

I got a call one night as what we were having for dinner. Wife said we don't have any potatoes or rice. I asked her if we had any grits. She said yes. We had pork chops, green beans and grits. It was a wonderful meal.

Grits also can stand for Girls Raised In The South. I got my wife out of the hills and hallows in Henderson Co. N.C.

I have used that name on some fishing boards and several gun related forums.

More fun with Grits:

A buddy once made me a 2-CD set he labeled "A Big Bowl of GRITS" (vol 1) and "Leftover GRITS" (vol 2).

A compendium of renditions of the classic tune "Ghost Riders in the Sky!"

And when you put on a suit, we can call you Polenta. :D

I am a Virginian. I love Bourbon. Virginia Gentleman is the only true Bourbon outside of Kentucky. (First Distilled in KY, then re-distilled and aged in VA)

I have deep Virginia roots. Born and Raised, Educated, Land Owner. I know the Back Hollers and Mountains from Bristol to Winchester on I-81. Have no effing use for NOVA or people from there.

I used to have an office in the Bowman Center in Fredericksburg, VA where they re-distilled and age Virginia Gentleman.

I place I use to work I operated and maintained a sanding machine. When things went wrong they use to call me to help fix the machine. Some of the guys seen me coming in and started calling me Sandman. That name stuck for over 20+ years.
I hope that they started humming the Metallica intro when they saw you coming!

I love to watch Jack Webb verbally rip some loser on the old Dragnet series. He was a master.
As a kid and before Jack Webb became JACK WEBB, he crashed into my grandfather’s car. Ended up working for him to pay off the damage.

This is a great thread.
It should be made a sticky and put below the introduction forum.
I had no idea I was opening Pandora’s Box. Everybody’s participation is very cool. :)

When motorcycling with other motorcycle enthusiasts, I was the first one to buy an Electra Glide. The big bikes were called Old People's Bikes and Geezer Glides. Whenever I'd show up they'd say, "Here comes that Geezer on his Geezer Glide."

LOL, when I played competitive paintball some of my teammates would play that when I geared up. Had me laughing and it kind of pumped me up a bit.

Best Entrance in College Football.... #VTEnterSandman

What were you riding before the founding of Harley Davidson?

I was born in South Carolina and lived the majority of my life in North Carolina.

SNIPE is an acronym for Super Naturally Intelligent Propulsion Engineer and was a moniker for Navy ratings Machinist Mate, Boiler Techs, Gas Turbine Specialists and Engine Men. In short, SNIPES made everything happen on a ship. I was a Machinist Mate that cross rated over to an Engineman otherwise known as a diesel tech.

SNIPE also has a gun ring to it as in sniper.

Cool topic, interesting to see how many names came about. Mine is not as creative, Rick is my name and 119 was my department member ID back when I started running fire/EMS back in the mid 90s. Ive used this name on just about every forum.

Sweet
That must have been a while ago. Jack Webb got a pretty good supporting role in the Hollywood classic Sunset Boulevard, and that was in 1950.
But imo his best work is the 1957 movie "The D.I."
He plays a hard-ass Marine Corp Drill Instructor, and this is long before R. Lee.
Classic! I give it 10/10. Vintage Jack Webb and he's in top form!

Yup, Grandpa Ted was born in 1899.

I’m off to find that movie!

Back in the day...long, long ago...I was an All-American swimmer and water polo player in HS and college. During long sets or ocean swimming distance races I would say my screen name, as a sort of mantra, over and over again in my mind. This was long before that fish movie Finding Nemo.

Sadly I have not been in the pool in a couple years. I should post my gently used Speedo in the BST I guess....
