Am I a doof or is my scope too far forward?

Playing with mounting options with my new scope and mount. I get it’s a personal fit, but this is as far forward as I need it to not have a black ring around the outside at a natural pose.

This too far forward or Gucci?

Nope. Whatever works for you. Mine is farther back but it’s for an SBR that I want a heads up (no craning forward) stance with.

This looks like more of a bench/prone/precision build. Looks fine to me.

Looks about right to me. When dealing with a magnified optic, I always start things out with the occular lens lined up the backside of the receiver. Adjust from there.

if all you'll do is shoot from bench or prone, then you'll be good as is. If you plan on any type of positional shooting, you'll want to play around with it in those positions before settling on a final resting place. IOW, I'd rather have the mount optimized for the most screwy position I'll likely find myself in, adjusting to that from prone/bench is easy.

It's definitely personal preference and comfort of end user. Mine actually sets little further forward then yours does. Just a matter of finding the sweet spot for your style of shooting.

Mine aren't much further back, just getting into the buffer zone.
If you were to get the turret pumpkin from kissing the mount at the front it wouldn't look so forwardy. Keep scope where it is and move the mount forward a notch, get it off the pumpkin.

The eyepiece of my scopes are almost always close to flush with the back of the receiver.

I generally set mine further forward than that. I don’t shoot nose to charging handle but I prefer eye relief set further forward based on where an iron sight would be . The only exception is my 20” AR with a large scope on it

If I were you, I’d move the mount two addition slots forward and center the scope in the mount. But that’s just a personal thing

So the trick to eye relief is to lay prone and push your optic as close to your eye as possible while still having a clear picture. Because when you are prone, your head is usually naturally in the most forward position. While you are aiming with your optic while standing, your head is further back. So this way of mounting an optic would cover both positions.

So dependent on your stock and your personal height, how far or close your scope is mounted would be different than anyone else's. Just don't bridge your optic in an effort to get it further. Try extending your stock if it does need to get further away from you.

11B CIB said, I would also center the optic in the mount. that way you can have equal pressure on your optic. Does it really matter in the grand scheme? Not really.

I’ve got a keymod handguard on one of my slickest shooting ARs so I say don’t worry about it.

And on another note, what’s the scoop with the Wagoneer?

I’m yanking my engine back out of it and replacing it with the 360 that came in it, then selling it. 😬
