Field Day

I’m hoping to stop by the local club and see their set up, never been to a field day before.

Your in Western Nc, there’s a VHF contest club out of Georgia that operates out of mile high campground for an annual VHF contest the beginning of Sept. W4NH is their call, if you have your ticket look them up and check them out. Very nice group with an impressive setup.

We stumbled across them on .520 5-6 years ago, got invited up, and hung out with them for a couple hours.

Went by the Union County club field day yesterday. It was a very small showing. I hope they do well.

This morning, 40M was bustling about 7:30 AM and shortly after that 20M opened up. Looked like many participants. I didn't visit the digital side. I'm sure lots of FT8 was logged. :p

Some 1kw rag chewers were on 40M not letting field day harsh their casual fun.

Yeah I was planning on setting up my G90 and playing around. However I was raised to beleive in work before play so of course I decided to mow the lawn first.

And that’s when my field day ended before it could even begin 🙁View attachment 636250

Been there, wrapped up about 50’ of rg11 in my deck and rear mower tire one time 🤦🏼‍♂️

I’m sure the contesters weren’t paying attention to the no contest on WARC bands either. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WARC_bands
You've grown too cynical, my friend. ;-)

I was licensed before the WARC bands were authorized.

In all those years active, as both a (active FRC and PVRC) contester and not, I've never once heard anyone trying to contest there.
It would be pointless to try, as there'd be no one to contact (hence no points), to say nothing of being publicly hounded as a lid for the rest of your days.

That is not to say that some contesters aren't first-class jerks. It's just that we know who they are.
And even the jerks aren't so foul as to operate on the wrong bands.

Anyone playing radio tomorrow during Field Day? I am hoping 6m is open and I can fill in some missing states during the event.
Hope you got some time in. CW on 80 last night was a bit light IMHO, from my house around 0100Z.

I skipped this year and instead went to the Appleseed Rimfire Known Distance event at Ramseur.
Earned my KD rocker and also the Morgan's Shingle Cold Bore banner patch.
