One of my close friends had his floors done 2-3 years ago and he always moans when we come over. I've finally convinced him to talk to the reno guy. A few questions to help him have the talk.

They installed new floors and there's a section they put parallel/perpendicular LVP as someone left a 2x4 laying there and the floor people just laid around it. Besides being butt ugly, does this perpendicular/parallel section void the warranty/waterproofness?

One of the stair sections has a lip on the top and EVERYONE trips on. Surely this is a trip hazard and against code?

Thanks in advance!

Is this glue down or floating? LVP is inherently waterproof because it's vinyl, not a wood product. It doesn't prevent water getting to what's below it if it's flooded though. Especially if it's a floating floor.

For the first one, if it's glue down then it's just a monumentally stupid way to lay the floor but shouldn't compromise it. If it's the click together floating style, then I have no words for how stupid that is.

For the second one, it would be pretty easy to cut an angled transition to keep people from tripping on it.

If this was all put down 2-3 years ago then he's waaaaay past when it's valid to complain about it. I don't know of anyone who warranties install for more than a year.

Click together flooring. Lots of sh!ttyness in the reno quality.

That first pic doesn’t make any sense at all. Patterns in hardwood installations can look nice, this one does not.

I just couldn't wrap my head around the first pic. Like ~.~ damn just have all the grain face the same direction.

For the Stair. It should be pretty easy. Just cut/trim it to the stair length. Then see how it looks.

Or take it out and put a more Flush Trim on it. I'm sure there is thinner trim. That half inch Riser or Tread looks like a door or window piece 😆

Lazy reno guy who didn't want the crew to come back and redo and they cut planks to fit in the place and told the home owners some days it be that way and home owners begrudgingly live with it.

But isn’t it installed in courses. Even if every plank was cut short, you’d install a couple short lengths in the first course and then keep going. You’d end up a few planks short for the entire room.

Hahaha that's actually what I told him. Cut your loses with the lazy reno guy and go to lowes and get a few planks and cut/click into place
