So I had a recent discussion with a close friend. He argued the Glock 43 was useless now with the introduction of the P365. I didn’t argue his point but it did get me thinking that I carry a Glock 43 with 7+1 and a spare of 7 or 8 rounds. I don’t really feel under armed. Is there still a large following of the CFF crowd carrying the 43? I do own a P365 but I ma hesitant to carry it for a few reasons 1) I haven’t shot many rounds down the pipe to have confidence in it 2) my last one rusted in the spring and summer heat, and well it’s swamp crack season again.

Generally appendix carry a G17C, but depending on what I wear I sometimes carry my G43. Large capacity is generally overrated as most defensive uses are 3 to 4 rounds at 3 to 5 yards (I'm not a cop.). Just point shooting at that distance.
"Useless"? Tell me your friend knows nothing about defensive firearms without telling he knows nothing about defensive firearms.

I wouldn’t say they are useless, especially if it’s want you already have. But if someone were in the market for a new micro compact I certainly wouldn’t recommend the Glock 43 nowadays.

Useless no.
Now we do sell more p365s over the 43 and 43x. But we also have a selection of grips and mags to fit everyone's needs. Which I do believe is why more people chose the Sig over the Glock.
But I still have my 43 and 42. Everyone is different after all.

I owned a 365. Fine gun aside from early teething pains. It did not usurp my 43. The 365 was gone the week I bought it. Just too small for my hand. The 43 is carried every day.
The original 365 is almost too small for my hand. The “x” module feels nice in the hand to me. I still carry my 43 thou. I can’t see ditching it without a damn good cause or reason.

Actually he is indeed very knowledgeable on guns and has both military combat experience and government contract experience so I do take his advice and thoughts on guns to heart even if I personally do not agree with him.

I can see that indeed. The modular FCU sure is a sweet feature to many so you can customize it how you see fit

I still own 2 and carry them routinely in the summer.
Same here and it doesn’t rust in the swamp crack weather we have nearly 10 months out of the year

Love my G43, I carry it more than anything.

The original finish wore in no time and started rusting. Then I had it Cerakoted and that wore through, more rust.

Now I just hit it with steel wool and spray paint every so often.

I think we’ve talked about this before… 🤷‍♂️ It’s all a blur lately.

I'm either packing the 43 or a LCP.
If you think about it the 43 plus a spare magazine makes sense because the most expedient way to fix a stoppage is a magazine swap. A spare 43 magazine weighs less than a spare 365 magazine. That makes it less of a burden to carry.
I think a lot of people who carry a 365 forego the spare as a result.

I use Shield Arms mags. One in the gun and the other either in my pocket, or AIWB mag holder (or both of I'm going somewhere sketchy enough to carry two spares but not sketchy enough to upsize to the 26 or 19.)

It's all a continuum.

If I feel the need to upgrade it’s to a 19x and 19 round mags. I have gotten to where in the last 2 weeks or so I carry an AR pistol as well no matter what in my vehicle. No I don’t leave it overnight either

Although I own several, I'm not a fan of Glocks - EXCEPT the 43. I've shot the 43 before, and liked them, but just picked up my very own 43X. And while I'm not very concerned with needing higher capacity magazines, I just rec'd two 15-rounders. So, in a very small and thin package, I have the firepower of a G19. But, I don't think it will replace my 365's.

A G43X compared to a G19. Same amount of rounds.

The G42 makes more sense for a deep carry piece.
The G43X makes more sense for a belt carry piece.
The G19 makes the most sense bar none.

The 43x and 19 have the same grip length. Of course the 19 has more rounds in a factory magazine configuration. I think you are correct overall the 19 is one of the best Glocks for an overall general use gun. I also agree the 42 is a great deep carry gun. I got rid of mine when the 43 came out because I didn’t reload for .380 nor was I able to practice with it a ton. At that time I couldn’t find .380 ammo to plink with much less self defense ammo.

Gotta love a 19 Gen 2!!!!

Unless.....

You're a freak like me who can shoot a 19 and a 43 well, but the 43x/48 frame is just different enough to not be able to shoot it as well. I tried to like it, but both the 43x and 48 had to go live elsewhere.

This has been my experience as well. I still have a nicely appointed 48, but it’s pretty much a spare gun at this point.

I still own both the 43 and the 42, carrying is a different story. I’ve transitioned to the Hellcat with an Sig optic. I like it so much, I bought 2 more of them. Same size, more rounds, more of a 1911 type grip, what’s not to love?

Same for me, both the 48 and 43x and a 43x mos all got sent down the road

For me, the large-for-a-.380 G42 has no real value. And I'm not too sure where a G19 fits anymore. I don't open carry, and the 19 is not nearly as concealable/'carryable' for me as a 43X, with the same amount of rounds. If I liked Glocks and wanted a range gun, I'd get a 17 or 34.
So, if I could shoot the 43X as well as the 19, why would I ever use the 19? Unless there's some strong evidence that the .6" longer barrel makes the 9mm radically better. If so, I could get a longer barrel for the 43X and still have a much thinner carry gun - which is very important to me.

These are just rainy day thoughts while procrastinating getting to work. I have several G19 variants, including one I cut down to accept G26 magazines, so I don't have any dog in the fight - just thinking out loud.

The 43X is weird for me because the ergonomics are superb, but the trigger shoe and the thin grip makes me hate shooting it.
