These are 11.99 plus shipping from China. Normally not of huge interest, but look at the options available because they're hackable. Think of it as a open source hardware platform

" LET'S KICK ASS AND REDESIGN THIS RIG USING FIRMWARE, CURE THE BUGS AND ADD MORE FEATURES.

Using new firmware we can produce -

Customised Low / MId / High power output settings.

Extended frequency coverage on receive from 18Mhz to 1300Mhz. (Note, the hardware is actually made for 50-600Mhz)

Amazing AM audio.

CW / SSB demodulation.

Spectrum analyzer [Below - showing the 2m band,UK DAB,FM broadcast, global receiver gains and IF bandwidths menu]

Modulation meter.

Additional Signal meter that can read signal levels in -dbm values. "

I've had one for about 6 months. At first, I hacked it and tried several firmware. Then found I couldn't program it with Chirp anymore. The Quansheng programming software set off all kinds of virus scanner flags at VirusTotal. Ultimately, I went back to factory firmware and used Chirp to enable the wide banding. I've not looked at the custom firmware(s) lately. Cool radio, that works well. I use it on 1.25M band, too.

I'll probably give it a try just to play with the extended features set. If I brick it, I'm out $20. Other than that, I use a 2M radio about 5 minutes a year, so I'm probably good as is.

a 6M or 10M CW beacon would be fun for that kind of money.

You really can't brick it. You can reflash the firmware at anytime. Good luck.

I notice there's some small flex board mods to enable SW. This could be fun!
