But, but... How can they justify their existence?Seems typical of big gubmint, fixing a problem that didn’t exist.
Wow
See page 5 for details.
This is the same kind of thing we had for salmon and crab back in Washington. When you got your license you were issued a catch record card. You either turned in the card by mail or filed the info on-line. If you were issued a card and didn't turn it in (even with zero harvest) your license was an additional $10 the next year. It wasn't as bad as it sounds - if there is a legitimate reason for it.
I don't target these fish so I don't know if there's a real problem or not they need to solve.
It’s because of NC’s relaxed approach to commercial fishing and the money they spend lobbing the legislators. VA and SC doesn’t not allow commercial fishing in the inshore and very near shore areas like NC. And believe it or not, they don’t have any problems. It’s another reason people will begin to catch these fish illegally and go around the law. You can go to SC and catch all the flounder you want every month of the year. Same for Virginia. I guess NC legislators consider themselves the smartest people and the environmental compass for all of us. Just another bunch of elitist politicians making stupid decisions.
I don’t think it is really you guys causing the problem. I think it’s more the commercial net fishermen. IMHO, Charters are like recreational fishermen. As a for hire fishing vessel we have been having to do this for a couple years now. We have a "map" divided up in zones and we are supposed to report how many fish and what kind of fish were released live and dead and what kind and quantity we kept and the location of each. we don't keep a notepad and write down how many grunts or undersized sea bass we release so the data they get is worthless. If I didn't submit the paper work on time a lady from marine fisheries calls and reminds me to do it.
I agree. I also think something has to be done. I don't know what I feel for the com guys. For some if not most of them that's all they know how to do as far as making a living for their family. Who am I or anyone else to tell those guys they can't go make a living?I don’t think it is really you guys causing the problem. I think it’s more the commercial net fishermen. IMHO, Charters are like recreational fishermen.
