Went to fire up my IC7k after a long rest and it's dead, apparently a known issue (I found the fix, just not sure I can do it).

Know anyone around RTP that does radio repair? Sending it back to ICOM sounds like an expensive and frustrating process.

RARSFEST Saturday at the fairgrounds, stop by the hands-on table where you can ask if a club member can help you or refer you
to a member who can. If you can't make it pm me and I'll post on the club forum.

so, replace C501 and/or C502, and then change out the bum resistor?
have you done the troubleshooting and don't want to tackle the SMD work, or are you looking for a 'complete' repair?

Complete, I've not even opened it up. It looks straight forward and I've done work like that before, but not on something that's valuable. Or would be valuable if it's working.

@Jayne worst come to worst, I have a Pace SMT rework station and a stereographic microscope station that will make those repairs easy. I am a bit of a haul, but I’d help you.

I gave up on SMT work, but I didn't have the right tools either. Not a lot of margin for error.

Just checked to see if Paul Hansen is still around....he is! He's done a few Icom repairs for me, and I have no complaints.
He came very highly recommended years ago.
He's in Anderson, SC

He moved a couple years ago - this may be his current witness-protection location.
Paul Hansen, W6XA 2134 Carthage Rd Tucker, GA 30084

I know someone that recently used Paul to repair a IC7600 and was happy.

I sent Paul a Icom this year I picked up at an estate sale. He as very fair.

Mine is currently out for repair, haven't followed up with the guy since he got it. Probably should poke him a little, although I have no idea how long these sorts of things take.
