@NKD , CFF’s largest dork here. I have been playing disc golf for about 10 years. Neighbors got me into it. Harris Lake has a course with several lake and pond holes that add some fun risk. Nothing like watching your favorite $15 disc sail into the lake.
I have played at somewhere over 200 courses nationally. Many hard core disc golfers will argue that NC and particularly Charlotte is the mecca of disc golf. Tons of free courses in NC. Lots of private courses too. I have a friend with a 100 acre tree farm in Linville that is an insanely awesome course. Ashe County Park up by our mountain place is great. Asheville has a great course. Heck, the course on UNC campus is pretty darn good. Cedarock Park in Burlington has 2 courses. One is long and mostly open and one is heavily wooded. They used to host the US Championships every year at Winthrop. Not sure if they still do as I don’t play as much as I used to. Fun to watch what really good players can do. I helped build the course at Rockridge Park in Pittsboro. That’s pretty good if you are looking for someplace close. And the City Tap is a decent 19th hole on the way home.
