OK now the Jan 15-16, er, 21 storm?

My sons, two of them, work at Harris Teeter. One bags/hauls carts, the other is a cashier. They were both working last night. My son the cashier said that when they clocked out at 9, no bread, no milk, little produce, little meat. But they expected several trucks of everything overnight. So my wife got up and was there when they opened. I guess that's a form of insider trading but we got our milk, meat, and produce.

It 's good to have people who know things!

I dont think its going to be as cold this time around, knock on wood, but models say 1-2 inches around Statesville area 12 hours from now and 2-3 inches in 42 hours.

Currently overcast in N Raleigh.
Radar shows the rain going North and South of us.
Someone is screwing with my mind…

Stop telling me that we will be getting 3-5 inches of snow, .5 -.7 inches of ice, or 1-2 inches of rain and then dealing a nothing burger. It is like dealing with a teenager.

My faith in humanity is restored… it is finally raining in N Raleigh.
Not very hard but at least it is raining….

Regarding neighbors as a food source during a weather apocolypse:

At the next HOA meeting, once it breaks out into the usual big argument, I’m going to stand up in the middle of the meeting and announce that I’m soliciting nominations for volunteers.

If this little bit of weather tomfoolery is bugging you then you're seriously in for a system shock come spring.

Some years back our church ladies were putting together a UMW cookbook. Some crazy idiot submitted his “Long Pork” Chili. The phone calls from some of the ladies were priceless. The best thing was the visit from the minister asking the submitter to stop messing the UWM … they almost included until someone asked what “long pork” was and they looked it up.

I take exception to being called a crazy idiot.

Welcome to "the Dome."

Landfills we’re closed so we couldn’t run if we wanted.

Bet they’re a damned mess and will be for a while.

That’s one thing I always hated about heavy precipitation, be it rain or snow…I knew the landfill was gonna suck big donkey dicks.

They were pig sty’s today. I ran from Winston to the Greensboro transfer station this morning just so I didn’t have to deal with it.

Starting to snow here in Clyde again

We had very light rain today, couple of brief snow flurries, and temps hit low 40's. The snow is starting to whittle down from last Sundays storm.
But even after y'all in the flatlands get your snow, we will still have more snow left on the ground than you will accumulate all weekend. There's still 8" of snow in my yard.
Most of the roads have been cleared, and now with tomorrow's never-above-freezing temperatures, the roads will become the wonderland of frozen black ice downhill bob-sled runs for cars and trucks.
It's awesome. Vehicles fly through guard rails soaring off the mountain and explode into flames just like James Bond. You've seen this right? Yeah well they got it from us.

We’ll be extremely disappointed if you don’t post pictures.

Respects to the dearly departed.

I fear Spring. Not due to the weather, but due to the sheets of pollen that will cover everything in pine pollen hell. That’s easily the worst thing about NC.

No pollen in upstate NY?

Not like the stuff down here. Not even close. Must be a special combination of climate and pines we have. My brother has bad allergy problems so I told him he should never come here when the pollen hits. He‘d die.
I had to do allergy shots for about eight years, and only stopped because they didn’t want me to do them more than five. Finally grew out of the worst of it, plus OTC nasal steroids became available. It sucks.

I’m only allergic to commies and olives. Maybe a few other minor things, but those are the two big ones.

allergic to rap music
@dmarbell and I were shooting pool at a place in Cary one weeknight, when the loudest, most profane, and obscene rap music came on we started cursing out loud, and threatened to start swinging pool cues. Well amongst ourselves anyway. We asked the owner to please change it to something the rest of us pasty old white folks could abide.

Apparently, like @Red Marley, we are allergic, too. @fieldgrade started to run red and I started breaking out in hives. If I remember right, I was looking for the plug on the jukebox.

Here we go again…. 1-3 inches of snow predicted for N Raleigh tonight… between 95 and 85.

yesterdays “major storm“ resulted in a dusting of snow on our deck and grass.
These forecasters are like shooting a red barn with an unchoked shotgun using birdshot -
a few pellets might hit the barn if they are lucky.

I can hardly stand the excitement of anticipating my first NC snow storm…
kinda reminds me of the kid that cried Wolf over and over until no one believed him.

@nhusa generally speaking, it has been my experience that winter storms in this area are almost always the result of a very cold air mass colliding with a warmer, wet storm system coming from the south east. Where the two collide determines who gets what, if anything, and it can range from upwards of two feet of snow to rain. Somewhere in between the two extremes, you have a swath that gets ice and freezing rain, which is the worst. The conditions ahead of time, especially whether it has been warm or cold, also plays a big part in how stuff sticks to the ground.

As to the storms, if you're in the unlucky zone, you can lose power for several days at a time when the temperatures remain below freezing.

Been living with the forecasters like this my entire life here in the south. Usually when they say we might not get anything is when we get a real snow storm. When they call for snowmagedon, we might get a dusting. But watch out for the ice storms. 1/2" of ice on trees and power lines might mean a week without power and total gridlock.

I believe for the most part, the weather forecasters are in cahoots with the grocery stores. Tell everyone snowmagedon is coming so you better make sure you have plenty of milk and bread. Channel 9 in Charlotte last week said to make sure you had provisions, and put up a picture of just milk and bread. Lived here all my life and never understood the need to stock up on milk and bread.
