OK now the Jan 15-16, er, 21 storm?

Lots of brine down around here, not calling for much.
But it'll drop to the teens and Im not fond of those temps, personally.

My propane tank is getting the life sucked out of it now. Need to reset my heat pump shut off to bring on the furnace to 30deg instead of 35.

I HATE freezing rain.

My wife wonders why I bought a whole house generator, propane heaters, electric heaters, another generator new in box, freeze dried food.... on and on.

Because of that ice storm twenty years ago in Wake county when it got to 35 degrees in my house.

Never. Again.

I remember that one. We were out of power for just shy of 3 days, which was much better than most in the area. We had a fireplace and all hung out in the living room until bed time. Kids were very little, so all five of us (at the time) slept in one bed with lots of blankets. We had a gas water heater, so we took long, hot showers before bed . That was nice.

Friends and neighbors who could make it came over for hot showers and fellowship around the fireplace. Had a cookout one evening while people cycled through showers. That part was actually a lot of fun.

Still, the joy when our lights came on was indescribable.

10 days here.

Light snow here in Heath Springs started before 7PM.

Helps to live in Cary on one of the main power trunks that also serves some government buildings.
I was in Cary, but in a 1950’s neighborhood with above ground lines, and trees fallen all across them stretched out like guitar strings.

Our neighborhood was north Cary near SAS, built in the late 80s. I can't remember now what major facility was on our power trunk, but I do remember our neighbor telling us we would have power before most others. He was right.

I imagine SAS with Jim Goodnight’s money and influence alone probably had something to do with that.

I was at NC State during that one. Campus kept power and we didn’t have class for at least a week. Had a friend with a Jeep Cherokee 4x4 and we got out to go hunting and mess around. Will never forget the amount of pine tops across Cary Parkway.

Snowing again in Catawba County!

at least an inch here already and coming down hard

Remember that one. That's when I realized that my little hood was number 6317.9 on the list of priorities of power to be restored. I had company in the house, thankfully had a wood burning fireplace and stole the battery out of my truck to run a 12v fan to circulate the heat. Kept 52 degrees in the house, but after 5 days I was about outta wood and patience when the magic returned.

Also the same week I realized what a pain in the ass crappy small generators are, how noisy the are and completely re-thought what was important to deal with in a storm. Also, never invite company in the dark of winter as that adds a layer of bullshit to an otherwise simple deal if the weather turns.

The grass is all covered down here.

The forecast said <1” here in Davidson/Huntersville but the streets were covered before 9 and it’s still falling lightly. From the looks of it, it’s probably 1-2”.

We have about 1 1/2 , 2 ish in Greensboro. Still lightly coming down. Roads were white at 9:00 and slick as glass.

I-40 from Durham to Benson is bad, only saw one plow the almost 2 hrs it took me to get home.

Looks like 1-3” here depending on which flat surface you measure.

Haven't made my way to the window yet this morning. Was snowing last night while we were out getting dinner with a friend celebrating her 80th birthday. Had to scrape car windows. Something I swore off ever doing again when I moved south.

Sleet last night and then a couple inches of snow around midnight.

We were forecast to get 0.15 to 0.3” of ice! Glad they missed that one!

A rare sight here is SC! About 430 this morning, looking out the back porch with the spot lights on…Dang, love how quiet it is too!
