I decided I wanted me my own truck. I have a Company supplied truck that I can drive as I wish. Just decided I wanted my own because I would eventually need a 4x4 at the beach. So here’s comes my modest truck personalize thread.
2012 DOT 4wd ext cab. 4.8 with pretty much manual everything. Just seeing how much I can improve the looks of a yellow truck😁
First thing was decent floor mats and a bed cover bought off the forum.
I want to upgrade wheels but not sure if the ones in the pics will be too much. Your opinions matter. So speak up.

Basically what I’m starting with

I dig it!! Keep it fairly light and that 4.8 will shock you with power and fuel economy. I had a 2003 SCSB 4.8 4WD truck that I loved. It was manual windows and locks. I done a few odd and ends to it and full synthetic fluid swap. That was a great truck that I drove all over the place. Probably would still have it if I hadn't drove it into the ocean.

In todays market, you stole that truck, prior to todays market it is a good deal for a work truck. What they said about the lift.... I think 31 inch tires were OK, but with 33's you might need a small lift to keep the tires from rubbing.

I love the manual/basic features..... it's a truck not a Cadillac. That's the way they should be, or at least have more basic models available. Some of what has driven the cost of a truck up are the creature comforts and luxury features.

Great Score!!!

Power windows and power locks are not luxury features. They are convenient and lots of older trucks came with them.

At least RE: Chevy, only the regular cab models are available without power windows and locks. Extended or crew cabs can't be optioned without.

Might be able to get away with just a leveling kit instead of a complete lift kit to run 33s

I'm just showing my age I guess!

Power windows are much better now than what they used to be, and I didn't like them because I remember several motors/tracking went bad and they could be expensive to fix for what it was. I remember less problems with roll up windows.

I had one truck where the windows jumped out of the track and I had to take door apart to fix it. And the windows in my older cars are S L O W.

But I'll still take slow glitchy power over manual. Especially in a smaller vehicle.

One thing I would not cheap out on is a good quality legal tint on the windows … especially the rear ones … to help the A/C.

Also you gotta give it a proper nickname … the yellow jacket or something.

MajicBumblebee
Yeah, and a black stripe would be easy but Bumblebee is Mopar in my mind … why I went yellow jacket. But you bring up the “Magic” which is perfect … maybe needs another color reference besides ”yellow” … maybe mustard, gold(en), banana … I have faith the “right” one will pop up.

A friend in college bought a Mustang II (pretty much the same chassis as the Pinto)… Bright Yellow. The POS which we dubbed it the MusTurd was truly a yellow turd …
You see a lot of Mustang posters showing the different Gen’s and most leave the mustang 2 out. Chevy will eventually do the same with the 4 Gen corvettes

if I hadn't drove it into the ocean.

wait wait wait... we're not going to let this one go. I needs the details... I just got off a 4 day trip surf fishing/camping by truck at Cape Lookout. My brother has a chevy of the OPs series and has had no issues driving it on the beach. He leaves it in the mode that puts it in 4x4 as needed and has never had an issue on the past few trips. I keep it in 2x4 until I think I need 4x4 and stop and shift into 4-High. He can do it on the fly.

There were a couple bright spots in the C4 … the ZR1 … okay 1 bright spot … but that stupid first year Crossfire FI V8 and even worse 4+3 transmission BS will never be forgotten by car guys.

LoL we were at Portsmouth Island when a hurricane blew through and flooded the whole place. After about 3 days we grew tired of fishing in front of the cabins and started venturing out. Most of the roads were 3+ foot deep water and the beaches were blown out in several spots. My buddies new jeep was totaled because of the flooding but I chose not to turn mine in. Salt water slowly kills EVERYTHING in a vehicle if you can't rinse it off. Yeah I did at one point get lit and bonsai that sucker into the ocean lol!!! FourLoco will do that to a person......

You said manual … Do I see a window crank? Millennials will freak out with those almost as much as a manual transmission.

For 33’s I think you might need a small lift kit …
Can probably fit 33x12.5-17's with just a leveling kit. At most a simple spacer kit. Mickey Thomson Alloys are inexpensive.
For tires, I'd recomend TRXUS MT from Interco are awesome. Great for the occasional snow. Quieter than most AT's on the highway. Great wet traction on road too.

Just ordered one, hope that works. Cheap, easy and has to help
Let us know how it works. I am waiting to replace my tires and was going to add one with larger tires. When I got the truck the tires were in great shape and with low mileage. Figured I’d wait till they needed replacing.

Oh yeah, after your tire swap use your GPS or have somebody pace you to figure out how far off the speedometer is. You might think you’re running 5 over but actually running 3 or 4 more than that because of the tire‘s larger circumference … and see blue lights.

Here‘s a guesstimater to start with …

So far Things that have came in and installed
Bed cover
Vent visor
Good deflector
Nerf bars.
Still waiting on lug nuts and leveling kit. I’m going to make sure there isn’t any issues with the tires before the flares go on

Be careful with the leveling kit. A neighbor had one installed on his F150 and didn’t get the installation right and wore out the factory tires in 20,000 miles that lasted 80,000 on mine.

I’ve had multiple people tell me to have it aligned as soon as the level kit goes on. They said just that little bit of geometry change will wear the tires if not realigned
