... we can fix up together. She told me a while back she'd like to learn how to work on a car. I'd like like to find one that needs work so we can fix it up and maybe spend some time together.

Looking for muscle-ish car. I'm not too picky, I mainly want frame in good condition (most important) and body to be in decent shape (second most important).

As far the make and model, we want something from mid 60s through early 70s. I will start with the ones probably most difficult to find because everyone else wants them too: chevelle, GTO, challenger, or similar (y'all know the ones I'm talking about).

We'd also consider: monte carlo, duster, nova, etc (you know the ones maybe slightly less muscle-ish).

I did post this in wanted section too, but figured it might get more attention here 😁
 
Also Add in, LaMans, Mercury Comets, AMC Javelin. I would set up searches on facebook marketplace I have bought old motorcycles there I just did a search for Plymouth duster on marketplace and it came back with 5. I have found that the 70 corvettes are less expensive than the 70s Camaros

You might want to consider 1978 to mid 1980's Chevy Malibu. No a bad looking car, cheaper than the 1960-70's everyone else is looking for, it's a full frame car, no uni-body and it was still using the basic universal small block Chevy engine. Same platform as the Monte Carlo from the same era so parts should be readily available.

Have you priced these cars lately? I'm looking for a car to no prep with and figured I would grab one of these cheap. NOpe....
 
My first car was a hand-me-down, a canary yellow 76 AMC Gremlin. I hated that care. But now I'd love to have another. That car was such a POS I bought a Chiltons and replaced belts, hoses, the water pump, and the carb. Recently I started pricing them and holy crap. Yeah....no.....

that's a 73' the 72 didn't have the split grill. I had one as well .. was a pretty fast boat with a 455ci. for it's day and age.

Yes that is a '73
I had an '72 Autumn Gold with tan vinal roof and interior.
 
Old mustangs are about as entry level as they get. A dime a dozen and parts are everywhere.
There are a ton of coupes 64.5-68 out there last time I looked, which has been a few years. If you are okay with an automatic it will be way easier to find one. If you want that third pedal it will slim down the available herd of Ponies.

My father had one as a loaner for a few days while the dealer prepped the 72 Grand Safari wagon for pick up.
Both the Gran Prix and the Grand Safari had the 400CI motor.

We would definitely consider about anything in the 65-72 range, even if it's not what most would consider a true muscle car, but it helps if it can be made a little sporty ... example: the 67 impala even though it's 4- door, she thinks it is cool

no or little back seat, bucket seats with console, you’ll thank me later.
Front buckets with armrest or bench seat work fine. Sorry to tell you this late in the game.

I-95 muscle in Fayetteville has some
 
Personally I'd hold out for a 4 speed. It's the ultimate "cool" in a muscle car and being able to drive a stick is a good skillset to have.

Plus, when they see her driving a manual it will blow away all of the Millenial, GenX, etc guys who don't know how to drive a stick!
 
She's 22 ... budget depends on how much work needs to be done.... most of what I've seen that needs substantial amount of work going between 5k and 20k

A better question would be what kind of work are you prepared/wiling to do or capable of doing.

Mustangs can still be had cheap but anything mopar has gone silly the past few years.
 
Late 80s to mid 90s 5.0 Mustang LX. Reasonable, easy to work on with reasonable and readily available parts with timeless style. They can definitely make some quick power!

I'd like to not have to remove body from frame, but other than that I would do everything else that is needed .... if I can't, I have two buddies who can show/help us
 
My cousins had an auction for my deceased uncles property last month and his 1965 Chevrolet Caprice coupe with a 327 went for $900. Had a 1965 Impala sedan that went for $350, don't remember what engine was in it. They both needed a lot of work.
 
My plan is to get something that is BE, has a frame and no rust.

What is BE you ask? Before Electronics like BCM -body control module, ECM -engine control module, ABS -automatic brake system, or AT - automatic transmission. That way even I can work on it..
