My daughter wants on old muscle car

If you really want to work on an old car, buy a British roadster - MG, Triumph, etc. You'll get to work on that thing all you want and then some...

Better yet.. get an old Italian vehicle like an Alfa Romeo.. in fact get three.

Lot of experience here…
One to drive, one waiting on parts, and one to be figuring out what is wrong..

@Me. You’re spot on. Probably had to do with weight or something simple.

No idea why, but I always liked them more than the GT model. I’m also a Ford junkie and that may explain a lot too!

ugly, uh no

I wish I still had my 79 F150 4x4. It was just a custom level trim but had a lot of options added.

Headliner, wood grain glove box cover, 4.11s front and rear, cab clearance markers, two-tone paint and chrome trim, 10.5x31s on the factory white wagon wheel rims. 300 I-6 with a 4sp.

Paid $850 for it in 1997. Drove it for 7 years. Now I see they are 10 - 25k

Boo!! Haters gonna hate! 😉

Maybe I have bad taste, but I’ve always loved that LX hatchback 5.0….
In around '93 I traded my '87 4 door Honda Accord for a '89 Mustang coupe that was previously a NC State Trooper car. I wound up in someones front yard within a month(no damage) and got a speeding ticket the next month. The Mustang quickly turned into a Mazda 3 because I couldn't afford the insurance. My dad now laughs at me when I complain of how much insurance costs for my 3 kids and wife.

Foxbody Mustang coupes are unobtanium. I looked for a long time after I sold my '92 5.0 5 speed ragtop LX.

Ford Fairmont is a Fox car too. Might be easier (and certainly cheaper) than a Fox Mustang. Other than the obvious the rest of the car is a Mudstain.

I miss my 88 GT.

An excellent option.

... we can fix up together. She told me a while back she'd like to learn how to work on a car. I'd like like to find one that needs work so we can fix it up and maybe spend some time together.
I started working on cars with my daughter when she was 13. Started with an 87 Comanche Pickup. It needed a bunch of work, but was rust free with good paint. She called it "The screaming metal death trap" and still talks about it today. Before she even got her license we traded that for a VW Passat Turbo. That turd was worth LOTS of quality time together. It just never stopped breaking. She's 33 years old now and we still do project vehicles. Right now we're prepping a 99 Blazer for a Gambler 500. Tomorrow, rather than buying a new grill to fix the front end damage we are fabbing one up from metal bar (she wants rebar. say it will look meaner, LOL).

She didn't stick with a bunch of the things we've done together, but she still does all her own work on her own cars. I hope you have the same success with your kid on it. It's been worth it to me.

Pulling the battery to get access to replace the sparkplugs. My friend had a '78 King Cobra🙁 he wrecked it half a dozen times.

I was always a huge fan of impalas and the one from the show supernatural just made it worse.

A 67 so it’s in your date range.

There was a guy in Florence that I did some racing with. He had a 4 door hardtop Just Like the one above with a 427 and 4 speed from the factory!.
I could wear him out as long as I ran up with him in town....if we ever went to race the 1 mile course we had set up all I'd see was taillights.....I learned quickly that a 3:89 rear end is not good for 1 mile racing!!!!! I've always had a soft spot for Crew Cab 4 speeds ever since.

This is the one I let get away. Bought it new in late '92 from Town and Country Ford.

The pic is an internet grab because I don't have a pic of the actual car on my phone or tablet.

At the time, it was the best bang-for-the-buck on the road. For sure. Actually the non-hatchbacks were a tad quicker and better handling, I think.

But they were fugly.
I had a notch back LX coupe that was an X Highway Patrol car....those cars were the lightest Mustangs made during the time. Mine weighed 2704 on the scales. Once I changed that stupid 3:08 gear and put in a 3:89 and did a "little" work to the motor, it really woke up. I had 2 at the time and the GT hatch weighed 3200 pounds. This was in 2008 or so and these little cars were still quite capable of embarrassing new Sporty cars. I had about $7,000 in each of them total. My challenge to all around here was always the same.....I'll race Anybody in Anything for a 1/4 mile whose car cost No More than mine.....I offered $1,000......never had a taker. I finally gave in a outran several that wouldn't bet but wanted to try it. I never liked racing for Free but sometimes showing is better than telling.
ETA...as to weight, the Boss 302 that I have now weighs 3,401. It came with a 3:73 gear.....definately quicker than the Fox cars...not Any more FUN.

The Tahoes are the same, 3.08 gears. A slick top would run 140 but struggles to bark a tire on dry pavement. 😂

I also had one of these, but shed no tears when I finally sold it.

1968 Ford Fairlane. Edit: I just remembered that there were eight people in this car one night as we cruised through town.

Still not a pic of my actual car, but looked identical.

If she is cool with a Crew Cab you just cut your cost in Half!
I always liked the 4 door impalas better. They have a more balanced look.

Same for the corvair. I thought the 4 doors were cool looking not so much on the 2 doors.

Don't rule out an old four door. Better chance it hasn't been beat to death. One of my customers has a 69 Ford LTD four door he bought new. Time to sell. I was all set to buy it and I found the 72 Duster I just paid a lot more for.

We definitely would consider a four door... mostly just looking for that year range, but not set on any particular make or model.... as long as it's not a convertible 😂

My Stepdad had a four door LTD.

I'm not sure what year model it was, but the neat thing about the car was it had a spring loaded wire contraption above the rear view mirror.

It was meant to stow a cowboy hat.

Edit: Just like this one that is apparently still sold.
