Better yet.. get an old Italian vehicle like an Alfa Romeo.. in fact get three. If you really want to work on an old car, buy a British roadster - MG, Triumph, etc. You'll get to work on that thing all you want and then some...
Make sure that you get her something with solid lifters and headers. She can learn how to adjust valves and replace gaskets.
In around '93 I traded my '87 4 door Honda Accord for a '89 Mustang coupe that was previously a NC State Trooper car. I wound up in someones front yard within a month(no damage) and got a speeding ticket the next month. The Mustang quickly turned into a Mazda 3 because I couldn't afford the insurance. My dad now laughs at me when I complain of how much insurance costs for my 3 kids and wife.Boo!! Haters gonna hate! 😉
Maybe I have bad taste, but I’ve always loved that LX hatchback 5.0….
2nd gen Camaros are about as hard to find as a fox bodyFoxbody Mustang coupes are unobtanium. I looked for a long time after I sold my '92 5.0 5 speed ragtop LX.
dat would be the "Bomb"V8 pinto wagon?
1978 Ford Pinto Wagon V8 $3500 OBRO
1978 Ford Pinto Wagon, 302 V8 with Holley, headers and small cam. C4 and a 9" Ford rear. Car needs work but runs and lot drives. Pretty solid old car, floors have had repairs. I started working on cars with my daughter when she was 13. Started with an 87 Comanche Pickup. It needed a bunch of work, but was rust free with good paint. She called it "The screaming metal death trap" and still talks about it today. Before she even got her license we traded that for a VW Passat Turbo. That turd was worth LOTS of quality time together. It just never stopped breaking. She's 33 years old now and we still do project vehicles. Right now we're prepping a 99 Blazer for a Gambler 500. Tomorrow, rather than buying a new grill to fix the front end damage we are fabbing one up from metal bar (she wants rebar. say it will look meaner, LOL).... we can fix up together. She told me a while back she'd like to learn how to work on a car. I'd like like to find one that needs work so we can fix it up and maybe spend some time together.
If she is cool with a Crew Cab you just cut your cost in Half!67 impala even though it's 4- door, she thinks it is cool
Pulling the battery to get access to replace the sparkplugs. My friend had a '78 King Cobra🙁 he wrecked it half a dozen times.Boo!! Haters gonna hate! 😉

There was a guy in Florence that I did some racing with. He had a 4 door hardtop Just Like the one above with a 427 and 4 speed from the factory!.I was always a huge fan of impalas and the one from the show supernatural just made it worse.
A 67 so it’s in your date range.

I had a notch back LX coupe that was an X Highway Patrol car....those cars were the lightest Mustangs made during the time. Mine weighed 2704 on the scales. Once I changed that stupid 3:08 gear and put in a 3:89 and did a "little" work to the motor, it really woke up. I had 2 at the time and the GT hatch weighed 3200 pounds. This was in 2008 or so and these little cars were still quite capable of embarrassing new Sporty cars. I had about $7,000 in each of them total. My challenge to all around here was always the same.....I'll race Anybody in Anything for a 1/4 mile whose car cost No More than mine.....I offered $1,000......never had a taker. I finally gave in a outran several that wouldn't bet but wanted to try it. I never liked racing for Free but sometimes showing is better than telling. At the time, it was the best bang-for-the-buck on the road. For sure. Actually the non-hatchbacks were a tad quicker and better handling, I think.
But they were fugly.

I always liked the 4 door impalas better. They have a more balanced look.If she is cool with a Crew Cab you just cut your cost in Half!

Same for the corvair. I thought the 4 doors were cool looking not so much on the 2 doors.

We definitely would consider a four door... mostly just looking for that year range, but not set on any particular make or model.... as long as it's not a convertible 😂Don't rule out an old four door. Better chance it hasn't been beat to death. One of my customers has a 69 Ford LTD four door he bought new. Time to sell. I was all set to buy it and I found the 72 Duster I just paid a lot more for.
